The most important aspect of evidence collection and preservation is protecting the crime
scene. This is to keep the pertinent evidence uncontaminated until it can be recorded and
collected. The successful prosecution of a case can hinge on the state of the physical evidence
at the time it is collected. The protection of the scene begins with the arrival of the first police
officer at the scene and ends when the scene is released from police custody. All police
departments and sheriff's offices should include intensive training for its personnel on how to
properly protect crime scenes. Potentially, any police officer can be put into the position of
first responding officer to a crime scene. Your first priority is to do what needs to be done in
order to obtain control of the situation and to render it as safe as possible. That includes
providing first aid, removing victims from the scene, and finding the suspect. Everything else
becomes secondary. However, you can't totally ignore the crime scene. You are responsible for
reporting everything that happened regardless of the type of call you are on. It beginning as an
in-progress call or you dealing with an emergency before the dust settled does not relieve you of
that requirement. That being said, your initial involvement in crime scene preservation revolves
around three basic duties: establishing a perimeter, finding out the suspects' movements, and
keeping any unauthorized people out of the crime scene.
Civil governments throughout history have declared many actions to be criminal that, according
to God, are not criminal at all, including reading the Bible and worshiping God according to the
dictates of one’s own conscience. Where laws exist that are contrary to God’s higher law, it is
the duty of Christians to seek to change these. Sometimes men have criminalized bad behavior,
with the goal of limiting behavior that was not criminal according to God, but rather was sinful,
or potentially sinful. Crime is rampant throughout the world. Different nations combat crime in
different ways with varying degrees of success. To properly deal with crime in society, we must
first understand what causes crime. The Bible teaches that crime is caused by evil in men’s
hearts. Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every
intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually........Now the earth was corrupt in
the
sight of God, and the earth was filled with violence. (Genesis 6:5 , 11)
