For this assignment, I selected the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. In
this case, the Supreme Court is asked to rule on the constitutionality of Mississippi's law prohibiting any
elective abortions beyond fifteen weeks of pregnancy. The court should reverse the ruling that
established a constitutional right to pre-viability abortions, according to petitioner Thomas Dobbs.
Significant ramifications flow from the Court's ruling in this case for women's rights, the place of religion
in the legal system. The decision will have widespread negative consequences in the United States. In
overturning Roe v. Wade and removing the federal constitutional right to abortion. According to the
lawsuit, the power to control abortion has been "returned to the people and their elected
representatives" and the constitution does not grant a right to one (Tori Staley & Jenny Guo,
2021). Following the ruling, states hurried to ban access to abortion, and the legal
environment has become disorganized, with the status of abortion rights shifting daily.
Restrictions and bans on abortion would also affect pregnant individuals' access to the
complete spectrum of reproductive healthcare, irrespective of their intended pregnancy
result. This covers care related to infertility, managing miscarriages, and treating
pregnancy-related problems.
This case, in my opinion, weakens women's constitutional rights. The Dobbs v.
Jackson Women's Health Organization says, the Supreme Court's decision overturning
Roe also puts American constitutional rights beyond the context of abortion at danger.
The ruling is a severe blow to the constitutional freedom to choose whether or not to
end a pregnancy and represents one instance in which the US Supreme Court has
violated a basic right to liberty. Also, criminalizing abortion presents a serious risk to
underprivileged groups in the US. Despite the existence of the constitutional right to an
abortion, individuals in southern and midwestern states faced criminal prosecution or
other serious legal actions due to their pregnancy or its consequences. A scripture I like
that goes with the issue at hand says, “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to
be free.6But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh;6rather, serve one
another6humbly in love.” (New International Version, 2011). Given that abortion is
regarded as murder in the medical sense, it is undoubtedly against God's word. In
Psalms 127:3 it states, “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from
him.” (New International Version, 2011). Personally, I think that abortion should not be
criminalized, particularly if pregnancy poses a risk to the mother or the unborn child.
Certain medical conditions should be grounds for abortion exemptions. A woman has
the constitutional right to an abortion that is safe, legal, and medically necessary.
However, when it comes down to the individual saying they don't want the child
because they think the pregnancy was a mistake, I am6against abortion.
