Thank you for your post, I enjoyed reading it. You had mentioned soothing that
was so true in my walk. You had mentioned, “that you c believe that as ministers of
the Gospel we need to seek wise counsel from a multitude of counselors before
stepping into our callings without spiritual confirmation or peace. As well as c
people moving to fast trying to lead ministries and it never worked out with a lot
of people get hurt and wounded in the process”. This really hit me deep, because
When I first started going to Liberty University, my degree was M.Div. in marriage
and Youth ministries. I never asked God about it nor prayed about it. I did it on my
own. Well in the midst of that My Pastor at the church I was attending was moved
to another sister church oversees. So my Pastor left, I left the church that I was at
and I found myself at the current place Harvest Church. I started serving in the
Youth ministries department due to the pressure of serving from the bishop that I
never prayed about that, I just moved in it people pleasing. Long story short, I did
not pray and ask God where HE wanted me and if this was what I was supposed
to be doing at that time. I ended up having to stop serving per doctor orders and I
was church hurt because I felt like they were more worried about having a body to
fill a spot verses making sure I was in good condition. During this time, I was led
to change my degree and over time God was revealing some things about myself,
and what I am currently doing now. So, I actually understand what you mean
about jumping ahead especially if God did not lead you to do something. Listening
to the Holy Spirit is crucial in our daily lives.
Because we are called, it does not mean we are ready or prepared to stand in the
pulpit. c There is no shortage of those that say they were called and have a zeal to
teach and preach the Gospel, but they are not prepared. c I have witnessed many
people who jump from church to church because they are impatient. Their goal is
to obtain a lead role where they can impress the people with their gifts. c Everyone
called to the ministry needs to be under the authority of a lead or senior pastor
who will mentor them and provide them opportunities to grow in their calling.
Allen contends that those called need to be vetted by the pastor or a ministry
team or elder board.[1] c I believe this is important because many that are called
do not know what they do not know. As Paul mentored Timothy and Moses
mentored Joshua, we that are called will benefit from humbly serving and learning
from those with wisdom and experience in shepherding God’s people and teaching
and preaching the Gospel. c c
