Introduction
Human Sexuality can be defined in many ways. When looking at the western culture, human
sexuality is defined through naturalism, humanism, and pluralism. Naturalism is when reality is
believed to not exist outside of the observable nature. Humanism which believes that human
beings are the most significant by being the source of all purpose and morality in nature.
Pluralism is when all truths are to be equal (Balswick & Balswick, 2019). These three
perspectives clash with the perspective of Authentic Sexuality which has a Christian influence.
Authentic Sexuality is defined as “God’s design for humankind to draw us into meaningful,
person-centered relationships” (Balswick & Balswick, 2019).
When looking at sexual dysfunctions, they fall into four categories. These categories include
desire disorders, arousal disorders, orgasm disorders, and pain disorders. Desire disorders are
when there is little to no sexual interests. Arousal disorders are the inability to become sexually
aroused. Orgasm disorders are the lack of or delayed achievement of an orgasm. Lastly, there are
pain disorders in which pain or discomfort is felt during sexual activities (Brito & Solis-Moreira,
