Thread: Create a thread answering the prompt below. Your thread
must be at least 250 words, and must be submitted by 11:59 p.m.
(ET) on Friday of Module/Week 4.
In chapters 3 and 4 of “A Woman and Her God” the authors discuss the
ways in which we see ourselves throughout each stage of our life. How
would you describe the season of life you are presently experiencing?
How is it influencing the way you approach relationships with others
and with God?
Reply post: Read and respond to at least 3 of your classmates'
threads. Replies must involve some discussion, not simply saying you
agree or disagree, and must indicate how your opinion may have
changed as you worked through the module/week. This assignment
must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of the same
module/week.
Discussion 3
After reading the assigned chapters from the past two weeks, I gained some
understanding of the season of life I am currently experiencing. Sandra D. Wilson and Kathleen
Hart describe in A Woman and Her God a woman’s self-concept and the different stages of life
she experiences as a Christian. I am in my mid twenties and have been married for almost five
years. We have yet to have children but definitely want to start a little family soon. Wilson
defined many labels that women obtain during life such as; mother, wife, sister, friend etc. The
one label Wilson really brought to my attention was the label of being a woman of God.
It is too often we get focused on our many other titles and forget that we are God’s and
that “we were created to be in an eternally secure love relationship with God” (Wilson, 2004,
p.49). I love this concept! Is that not what we are all looking for, a relationship that is eternally
secure in love? I have no doubt that my husband loves me and I love him, but we are human and
flawed and unable to fulfill one another completely. That is God’s place!
Kathleen Hart (2004) gives an example of six stages of life women go through and the
same questions we should ask through each stage (p.72). These questions allow us to better serve
and know God’s purpose for that particular stage in our life. The fifth question she shared was
“Am I in control of my actions and attitudes?”(p.90). This is one I need to ask myself more often.
As a young married woman and college student, I have been easily getting overwhelmed and
frustrated. I’m really learning to grasp that there isn’t much I have control over, but the thing I do
have control over is myself. I need to be more aware of each of those six questions and
acknowledge that God has me in this place in time for a purpose and reason. He wants to mold
and shape me to draw nearer to Him and be an example to those around me. Proverbs 3: 5-6 says
this: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your
ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (New International Version). I love
this verse and believe it is one to be reminded to myself in all stages of life.
Hello Rebecca,
What an awesome testimony you have shared. In four years, you’ve most definitely
entered stage after stage quickly, but what an awesome experience becoming a mother! I am
sorry to hear about your loved ones and having to watch them battle with health issues. I can
relate with watching a parent slowly decline in their health and it is so painful. I admire that
you’ve allowed those hurts to appreciate and value your relationships more. I have to admit when
I first started dealing with my father’s addictions, and his deterioration of health because of it, I
started to push people away. I became guarded and allowed that one relationship dictate the rest.
I was quickly reminded of my Father in Heaven though and the importance of my relationship
with Him. My favorite verse that seems to carry me through all stages of life is Proverbs 3: 5-6
says this: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all
your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (New International Version). I
never really have understood my dad’s addiction or the whys to go with that, but the closer I get
to God the better my relationship is with my dad. It isn’t a perfect situation, but I am still
fortunate to have my dad and the relationship that we do have. I know God is in control and He
has a plan for all of our relationships.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and beautiful scripture.

Hi Kimberly,
I really enjoyed reading your discussion. It was a great review of the last few weeks’
readings. I am so encouraged by your salvation and bravery in becoming a Christian and
deciding to not only return to school but choosing one that will educate you with God’s truth. I
literally had goose bumps reading your discussion post. My father is an alcoholic and has done
so much damage to his body that his quality of life is deteriorating slowly. I can only imagine
how difficult it has been for you to turn your life around, but I can sense how worth it has been
for you. Wilson (2004) shared that “we were created to be in an eternally secure love relationship
with God” (p.49). I believe her! We look to the world and other things to fulfill us, such as
alcohol, but only we were created to be in a perfect love with God. Keep it up sister! I am so
proud and encouraged by you!
Dear Sara,
Congratulations on your engagement! What an exciting time and season you are experiencing!! I
have been married for almost 5 years now and still remember that season in my life and it was
such an incredible time drawing closer to my now husband and the Lord! It was a time I was able
to learn so much about a covenant and what God designed for a marriage to be. I am so glad to
see you use the word covenant and am excited for you to get to experience such a sacred thing. A
scripture our pastor shared with us was from Mark 10:9 and it says, “what therefore God has
joined together, let no man separate” (New American Standard Bible). This is something we’ve
had to remind ourselves of, but it is so comforting to us to be able to remember that season and
how God joined us together. God bless you and this magical season.
