Discussion 3: Descriptive Statistics, Ordinal Scale, and Dichotomous Variable
D3.4.1 (a) What is the mean visualization test score?
The mean visualization test score is 5.2433.
D3.4.1 (b) What is the skewness statistic for math achievement test? What does this tell us?
In output 4.1b, descriptives for variables labeled as Scale at the start. The math
achievement exam has a skewness statistic of.044. Skewness occurs when one tail of a frequency
distribution is longer than the other, and the curve is skewed if the mean and median are
considerably different (Morgan et al., 2020). An entirely normal curve has skewness equal to
zero. The skewness of .044 indicates that the variable is not highly skewed, as the skewness on
the normal curve is zero. The.044 is roughly regularly distributed.
D3.4.1 (c) What is the minimum score for mosaic pattern test? How can that be?
In output 4.1b, descriptives for variables labeled as Scale at the start. The mosaic pattern
test has a minimum score of -4.0. If this were an error, the best place to search for it would be in
the codebook or by going back over the used data set. When one browses through the codebook,
one will notice that the visualization ratings range from -4.0 to 16. The visualization score of -4.0
indicates that at least one individual received the lowest possible score, which is most likely
negative owing to incorrect guessing on the questions (Morgan et al., 2020).
