Abstract
The Engelman’s Bakery was founded in 1983 by Sammy Engelman and his sister,
Miriam Engelman Gur-Lavi. Both Sammy and Miriam have 200 years of bakery business in their
blood; their parents ran a bakery in their native Germany before immigrating to New York in
1961. In 1981, Sammy moved to Atlanta, and in 1983, a full-line retail bakery was opened. The
retail operation gradually evolved into a 100% wholesale business, and production expanded into
every available square foot of space. Engelman’s have grown from a retail business to a fully
operational wholesale enterprise servicing customers like Costco, Walmart, restaurants, and other
retailers.
Research Question
The general problem to be addressed is the deficiencies in their manual book-keeping
methods and the effects of hiring new employees without proper training and documentations.
Therefore, this paper seeks to develop and answer quantitative questions by which a hypothesis
will be developed to further enhance the body of this paper. Research questions can be derived
from the aims of a thesis”, (Andrew R (2018). Based on the problem statement, this research
seeks to provide answers to the following research questions: 1. What are the effects of using
manual bookkeeping methods? 2. How does the literatures on authoritative accounting standards
view the reporting process of companies using manual bookkeeping methods? 3. Are these
