ORGANIZATION REVIEW 2
Abstract
The success of any given organization is based on how best it utilizes the laid down
strategies to achieve its strategic goals. This includes the management of the available resources
and the process followed in developing organizational goals. The rational concept upon which an
organization is built enables its management to gear it towards success. Again, frequent review
of the set strategies gears an organization in the right direction (Mupepi, 2017). This paper
depicts an analysis of a case study of a company based in New York, on “supporting Employee
Goals”. The case study is a replay of the yields of effective management.
ORGANIZATION REVIEW 3
The management process includes the allocation of resources, maintenance, and
development to achieve company goals. The management process is dynamic by nature; it
involves meeting the needs and constraints within the external and internal environment of the
company (Bolman & Deal, 2017). Also, the managerial process needs to be flexible and highly
adaptable to match the high rate of change. Management comprises three main stages, as
portrayed by Sarah; they include planning, organizing, controlling, and leading. The process
forms an integrated cycle of actions and thoughts.
From the case study, we can describe the managerial process as anticipating viable
opportunities and thinking of how to act on them. Managers regularly examine alternatives and
are bound to choose what is in the best interest of the firm. Second, managerial roles involve
allocating resources; Sarah is involved in allocating working hours to Amy to ensure optimal
productivity. Third, management consists of giving guidance to one's personnel. The partners of
On-Ramps have played a vital role in the success of Amy. Lastly, the administration needs to
review their employees and make necessary changes frequently. On-Ramps has a review semi-
annually where they set objectives for the firm. Also, they conduct check-ins. Regular reviews
give information essential for planning efforts making the production cycle start over again. The
four managerial duties are interdependent; managers may perform more than one task at an
instance.
The four management duties help partners to improve firm efficiency and effectiveness.
Efficiency means utilization of the least amount of resources to create a given output while
effectiveness is the capacity to create the desired quality. Sarah identified Amy for her high
performance and institutional knowledge and has since decided to work with her on a flexible
basis. According to Sarah, this is a more affordable alternative over employing "another Amy".
ORGANIZATION REVIEW 4
The theories of the organization include rationalization, bureaucracy, and division of
labor (Christensen, 2019). The rational organization structure comprises of two significant parts:
formalization and specificity of objectives. Objective specifies guidelines on when specific tasks
need to be cleared with a given quantity of resources. Formalization means standardization of
organizational conduct; it yields stable expectations creating a rationalized organization system.
A scientific structure of corporate management aims at maximizing the output of employees with
the least quantity of inputs. Individual employee rationalization is gained by making the effective
performance of duties, issuing incentives including promotions, scientific training of the
workforce, among others. Eventually, the output is increased using minimal labor.
Bureaucracy describes an organization governed by procedures, rules, relatively rigid
authority, and impersonal relations (responsibility relationships). Hierarchy involves the ranking
of employees within an organization (Christensen, 2019). The production process is divided into
levels, and individuals are assigned duties according to their level of expertise. By performing a
given task repeatedly, an employee grows their expertise. The conduct of employees is guided by
a code of procedure, rules, and regulations. Proper records are usually stored for future reference
and may be the basis of the evaluation of employees. Lastly, bureaucracy involves a ruling class
that consists of officials for coordinating activities within an organization. Usually, they have
promoted officials based on skills and competence.
The division of work within an organization results in the specialization of labor
(Christensen, 2019). The division of work is effective because it leads to saving from not
switching of tasks. This mode of organizational structure does not involve the substitution of a
workforce with technology. Occupational specialization results in a distinct skill and increased

productivity. Matching technological skills with human capital is essential in adopting scientific
organization structure.
The main organizational structure in the case study is bureaucracy. The emphasis within
this system is never laid on individuals but their skills and expertise. The organization structure
presented in the case study has a hierarchy that helps employees identify those of higher
authority. Knowledge of the jurisdictional limits facilitates communication, and the workforce is
fully aware of who one should approach for a given scenario (Burke, 2017). Amy was able to
communicate with the right person concerning her busy education schedule and can balance
school and work. Clear jurisdiction involving employees helps retain consistency.
Additionally, the firm is built on the rationality concept. The decision to retain Amy is
based on a long term objective. Rewards within the organization are issued upon merit. Arbitrary
bases, patronage, and favoritism are not a priority within this organization (Burke, 2017). Work
has been divided into levels, and duties are assigned to specific individuals. The firm is seeking
to create an opportunity where Amy's skills will be fully utilized. As mentioned earlier,
specialization increases efficiency and quantity of output.
The structure is created upon responsibility, discipline, and authority. Each employment
type requires given working hours; for instance, an internship requires full time working. There
is the unity of the management, and all partners work together to achieve; objectives of the firm.
The management gives support to Amy also shows unity between employees and the partners.
Unity means that the firm is moving towards a common goal; thus, a unanimous effort is likely
to yield success. The partners are fair when dealing with the workforce. From the case study, the
partners have shown enormous initiative in encouraging Amy to continue pursuing her academic

goals. Also, Amy does not sabotage the company's interest in her needs; she is appreciative and
has maintained her performance. Amy should continue performing well and she will be
rewarded.
