Project: Creating Problem Statements
The general problem to be addressed is the lack of organizational innovation in nonprofit
organizations creating a decrease in internal capabilities resulting in the inability of nonprofits to
increase operational efficiency and improve financial performance. According to an article
written by Kristina Jaskyte (2020), organizational innovations have been suggested to contribute
to improved internal efficiency, organization’s sustainability, and renewal and therefore should
contribute to nonprofit organization’s ling-term capacity (p.150). A second article supported that
nonprofits should promote innovation and innovative practices to maximize profits and gain
competitive advantage (Svensson, Mahoney, & Hambrick, 2019). The specific problem to be
addressed is the organizational innovation in nonprofit human service organizations within the
Houston area creating a decrease in internal capabilities resulting in the inability of Houston
nonprofits to increase operational efficiency and improve financial performance.
