Value creation is the synchronous quest for differentiation and low cost in a way that
makes jump in an incentive for both the firm and the purchaser. Competition is made irrelevant
when successful value innovation is achieved, which opens new, uncontested market. Firms must
lower their costs and increase the perceived consumer benefits. They achieve this by using the
eliminate, reduce, raise, create framework, which IKEA has used (Rothaermel, 2017).
Sustainability is a strategy along the monetary, social, and natural measurements that can
be sought after without negative impacts on individuals or the planet. The role that sustainability
plays in the success of IKEA is their reduction of the emission of harmful fossil fuels into the air.
They achieve through their do-it-yourself business model. They do not have trucks that they use
to transport furniture to the homes of customers, therefore there is no excess emission of fossil
fuels into the air that would be there if they used trucks to transport the furniture to customers
(Rothaermel, 2017).
The triple bottom line is comprised of three dimensions, economic, social, and ecological
concerns that can lead to a sustainable strategy. These three dimensions are also referred to as the
three Ps: profit, people, and planet. Managers review the firm’s satisfaction of its social and
ecological commitments to partners with the use of a triple bottom line. The role that triple
bottom line has in the success of IKEA is also in their do-it-yourself business model and the
elimination of salespeople and other taken for granted elements. Profits are increased by offering
tens of thousands of home furnishing items, as well as a range of accessories. They emphasize
and improve the customer experience by laying out the stores in a way that allow customers to
see and touch their products. They help the planet by not eliminating the emission of excess
harmful fossil fuels (Rothaermel, 2017).

The Bible states in Leviticus 26:6, “And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie
down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the
sword go through your land” (King James Version). Here God is letting us know that there will
be peace, and no one will be able to cause us harm. This verse fits the topics of sustainability and
triple bottom line. When a firm is sustainable, there is not negative impact to individuals or the
planet, which in turn will not allow any swords (harmful fuels in the case of IKEA) to further
pollute the environment. Using the triple bottom line, God will rid evil beasts (competitors) out
of the land.
