Faith,
I enjoyed reading your thread. I like how you started with defining humility and
addressing the issue of humility sometimes being looked at as a weakness. It has been found that
humble leaders “behave in a manner that is primarily other enhancing, rather than self-
enhancing” (Morris, Brotheridge, & Urbanski, 2009). Your statement that a good leader needs to
teach, which means setting an example for those they are leading, is very true. The Bible tells us
in Philippians 2:3, “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let
each esteem other better than themselves” (King James Version). One should value others over
themselves and not be driven by selfish ambition and vain conceit. A humble leader allows others
to share their thoughts and make the best decision for the team. Employees want to feel valued
and have their opinions heard.
