The author of this article is Ralf Plattfaut, a professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen
and has experience in information systems and is currently working as a management
consultant. Professor Plattfaut’s experience in management, management systems, and
processes make him a qualified resource in project management. Here Professor Plattfaut
discusses the importance of project management capabilities and how these capabilities can
improve business process management.
In this article Professor Plattfaut explores how project management capabilities are an
essential aspect to the success of business process management. In today’s world, project
management is necessary for organizations to meet goals for future sustainability. When
organizations start a large project of optimization and digitalization of their business processes,
organizations should bring in the right consultants that have project management knowledge, to
meet the targets set for their project. Project management knowledge assists with ensuring the
life cycle of a project is completed and that the new business processes are ones that will drive
sustainability and success for the future of the organization.

in the foodservice industry and project management. Associate Professor Curtis has experience
in hospitality management and her expertise is in organizational commitment, human resources,
organizational culture, and management. The authors here are trying to demonstrate the
importance of project management in the hospitality field.
Project management has been an integral piece of the hospitality field. Many projects in
hospitality require the project to be defined in time, scope of work, and what the project will
cost. These are all terms in the project management discipline that is used in the field of
hospitality. The authors are trying to convey that hospitality managers perform many projects
over the course of their year and are in many ways project managers themselves. Utilizing and
implementing project management strategies will be an effective way to complete projects and
optimize work.

next author is LuAnn Piccard who is the Chair of the Project Management Department at the

The authors in this publication explore the principles of project management and how
over time the principles of project management have adapted over time. They are looking to
address new methods of how project management approaches can help managers and deliver
better outcomes to organizations. The authors suggest a user-empowering approach which is a
method of the stakeholder’s engagement in the project directly and utilizing their involvement
for better outcomes of the project goals.

and become more resilient against those risks. Mitch M has contributed his skill set and
knowledge to the project management field with an expertise in risk mitigation in project
management. In this publication Mitch M identifies four methods or strategies to identify risks
and how project managers can mitigate those risks for organizational sustainability.
Mitch M identifies four strategies for risk mitigation which are: Identify and Analyse the
Risks, Prioritise and Assign the Risks, Empowers Persistent Communication, and Maintain
Complete Audit Trials. Effective project management goes into identifying risks, effectively
making decisions on the risks, always communicating with the team, and also ensuring that the
risk is identified so that it will not hinder the project moving forward. Having effective risk
management in project management will ensure that projects are on time, on budget and meet

examine and demonstrate how successful project management processes affect the

are highlighting how project management is a crucial part of encouraging and environment for
innovation and sustainability for organizations.
In this article the authors seek to provide a literature review and analysis to identify
specific project management practices that assist in increasing innovation and sustainability. The
goal of organizations should be looked to have impactful innovation, not only in products that

management research and all being associates at the Norwegian University of Science and
Technology. There are a lot of modern factors that present obstacles for future sustainability of
organizations and one of the factors highlighted in this article is the environmental hazards and
concerns. The authors identify some of the environmental factors such as climate change,

environmental hazards and the use of fossil fuels that pose a risk to organizations. To address
these challenges would be to look at a new project management framework to assist

organization’s ability to continue sustainability. Some of the hurdles include lack of information
sharing, lack of leadership and support, lack of priorities and lack of professional capabilities.
These are areas where project managers implement the correct framework and practices so that
information can be shared, and support can be given to a project for its success.

Dr. Emmanuel Awuah has worked in executive leadership for more than 25 Years. He has
collaborated on many articles identifying project risks and contributing to literature in the
project management field. In this article the author identifies that troubled projects are due to a
lack of risk management practices. These risk factors can be identified in effective project
management practices. These practices will place persons responsible to identify risks and lay
out a process to communicate the risk and barriers that may hinder a project and be able to
address them to continue project success.
Dr. Awuah sets out to identify success indicators to prevent project stagnation and assist
in implementing successful practices to improve the project’s success. Implementing the correct
framework to complete projects will limit the lapse in identifying risks and other factors that will
hinder meeting project targets. Identifying and mitigating risks are critical to a successful project
management framework.
