The human resource department is tasked with producing an employee handbook that the
employer and employee can use as an information resource. Employee handbooks and manuals
can effectively communicate the organization’s mission statement, policies, procedures, benefits,
and other expectations, such as dress code, conduct standards, and compensation information.
This information can be valuable to new employees and ensures transparency and expectations
have been established between the employee and the organization. This paper will explore the
following components in an employee handbook and manual for a business between fifteen and
twenty-five employees: sexual harassment, attendance policy, parental leave, and paid time off.

Employee handbooks and manuals are instrumental in cascading information from the
organization to its employees. Regardless of industry, size, or the number of employees the
organization employs, most organizations can ensure employees receive appropriate information
