What is meant by (a) Zero-sum game? (b) Nonzero-sum game? Provide examples in your
discussion.
A zero-sum game is one where the success of one competitor depends on the failure of
the other. For instance, any organized sport is played with a zero-sum outcome in mind. In order
for one team to win, the other must lose. A nonzero-sum game is best described as a situation in
which the participant’s interests are intertwined. In business, zero-sum games are explained as
competition between firms. In order for Pepsi to succeed, Coke will have to lose customers. The
success of one company is related to the failure of the other. Businesses that try to focus on
nonzero-sum games will be more apt to cooperate with competitors knowing that the variance of
clientele or services leaves room for the success of both companies.
Respond to the charge that immigrants flood the labor market and drive down wages in the
U.S.
Immigration is the subject of great debate in the political landscape today. Many voters
determine their candidate of choice based on his or her stance on immigration. The charge that
immigrants flood the labor market and drive down the wages in the U.S. lies at the heart of the
immigration debate. A clarification must be made regarding the status of the immigrant. There
are many legal immigrants who have come to this country to make a better life for themselves
and their families. On the other hand, there are illegal immigrants, commonly referred to as
“undocumented workers” who are hired illegally by producers, and work at below the average
labor cost. The effect may be small when considered in a local area, but when the entirety of the

country is taken into account, the effect is much more drastic. (Ottaviano, G. P., & Peri, G.,
2012)
From a scriptural standpoint, Leviticus 19:33 states, “And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your
land, ye shall not vex him.” (King James Bible). However, one must be careful to remember that
Scripture never contradicts itself, and in Romans 13 states that every one, not just Christians, are
to be subject to the rulers over them. It is the responsibility of the producers and business
owners to make sure that they remain above board in their hiring policies. If businesses are held
accountable for their actions, there would not be a market for illegal immigrants, therefore
restoring the wages and labor market to its rightful place.
