Materials Requirements Plan
Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems are integral for production planning and
inventory management (Jawad Najy, 2020). MRP systems utilize powerful computer software to
help organizations manage inventories and supplies (Wazed et al., 2010). As Jawad Najy
elaborated, MRP systems are employed to oversee logistics processes. They are specifically
created to aid production managers in strategically scheduling and placing orders for items
characterized by demand. When executed and applied correctly, MRP systems are a valuable
tool, facilitating production managers in planning capacity requirements and efficiently
allocating production time. When implemented by manufacturing organizations, MRP systems
can determine the accurate number of parts and materials needed to produce an item, determine
when parts need to be ordered and in what quantity, and establish a schedule for ordering parts,
according to Jawad Najy. In general, an MRP system is a fully integrated inventory management
system. The benefits of implementing an MRP system are a reduction of inventory, reduction of
waste, reduction in costs, improved customer service, reduced sale prices, and an ability to
respond to changes in consumer demand (Sum et al., 1995).
An MRP system can benefit companies like Tesla for various reasons. MRP systems
allow Tesla to maintain ideal inventory levels by calculating the required quantities of materials,
components, and parts needed for production. (Hasanati et al., 2019). This helps minimize excess
