Conducting Market Research
Market Research Theory
The primary competitive edge in corporate operations in the modern global marketplace
is having access to pertinent information. Furthermore, the workforce's ability to comprehend
pertinent information necessitates appropriate knowledge. This workforce's capacity to assess
present situations and forecast future trends based on international market conditions will enable
the organization to be managed in the most profitable and economical manner. As a result,
market data is essential to developing a successful global marketing plan and plays a significant
role in the organizational decision-making process while conducting business in both domestic
and foreign markets (Nyukorong, 2017).
Undoubtedly, one of the most important methods for gathering accurate, timely, and
reliable market data is market research. In order for gathered information to be effectively
communicated to decision-makers, it requires the practical skills and pertinent experience of
involved professionals to gather and properly evaluate such information. A worldwide marketing
executive anticipates accurate information that will enable all relevant parts of the subject matter
to be considered when making decisions. The right and desirable information may come from
market research as well as assessments performed by professionals and executives with the
necessary knowledge, abilities, and experience (Keegan and Green, 2013).
How Market Research is Conducted
The marketing department of the company may carry out marketing research internally,
or a marketing research company may carry it out externally. Decisions about the marketing mix
and other marketing-related tasks are then made using the information that has been acquired.
CONDUCTING MARKET RESEARCH 3
The precise arrangement of decisions made regarding distribution, pricing, promotions, and
products with the intention of reaching a specific consumer demographic is known as the
marketing mix. Market segmentation, identifying particular target markets and their media
habits, analyzing consumer behavior and needs, monitoring customer satisfaction, creating new
products, and assessing various advertising executions and pricing strategies are some of the
more popular uses of research information in marketing (Yallop et al., 2022).
Exploratory, descriptive, and causal research are the three categories of market research.
Businesses utilize exploratory research as a technique to find fresh concepts and possible market
niches. It is not comprehensive and does not incorporate every phase of the market research
procedure. The results frequently draw from case studies, pilot studies, open-ended inquiries,
secondary data, and earlier research. Product managers should not use these findings when
making judgments about entering new markets. They frequently offer broad details about
prospective customers and associated goods and services. For instance, the multinational candy
and chocolate maker Mars M&M found that people categorize candy and chocolate by color. The
research and marketing plans for the future benefited from this information (Ayuba et al., 2015).
Questions of the who, what, when, where, and how kind are addressed by descriptive
research. Product managers apply it throughout every stage of the research process, making it
organized research. Descriptive research focuses on a market's specific details. Descriptive
research, for example, determines the age group that purchases a specific brand of goods and
why. Formal research design and data collection are necessary for this kind of research, which is
more structured (Ayuba et al., 2015).
Lastly, product managers can better grasp the cause and effect of a relationship by using
the "if X then Y" definition of causality. Considered formal research, causal research aids in the

identification of issue managers for product managers. One example would be the interest in
ascertaining the cause of a shift in consumer satisfaction.
Discussion and Analysis
With this information in mind, it is evident that sufficient categorization of market
research has not been carried out to sincerely confirm the functioning of an organization's aims
or aspirations. The understanding or phases of the market research process are disparaged in the
business environment. This has an impact on how well market mechanisms are used to improve
performance across the board in verification. Market research has a significant impact on how
well a corporate organization performs. Therefore, the importance of market research cannot be
overstated, regardless of the size of the corporate organization. In order to generate significant
returns on investment and shift an organization's focus toward business, it is necessary to revive
the adequate application of market research that is lacking in certain corporate organizations.
Biblical Integration
Proverbs 19:2 says, "Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste
with his feet misses his way." This scripture emphasizes the importance of market research for
employers and consumers. It emphasizes the need for mental preparedness and understanding of
the information being sought. While zeal is crucial, it's equally important to be aware of the type
of information and how it will be used. It's crucial to take time to conduct market research, as
ignorance and haste can hinder future success. Researchers should slow down and be aware of
what is happening and what might happen before acting.
