Schindler (2022) describes that there are four different categories for studying which are:
descriptive, casual-explanatory,reporting & casual-predictive. In this case study, Emil Vicale, the
Hero Builders Mitchell 2
president of the BBC design group, researched to try to define what the niche of the action figure
industry was all about. While doing that the main ways he used to study them were casual-
explanatory and descriptive methods. According to Schindler, studies that involve summarizing
the data and creating comparisons for statistics are producing a better understanding for the
situation (2022). On the other hand, a casual- predictive study is aiming to hypothesize on how
one or more factors can determine outcomes with the dependent variable to happen (Schindler,
2022).
Descriptive research, also known as descriptive studies, is often the first step when it
comes to conducting a hypothesis and collecting data for research. (Swatzell & Jennings, 2007).
The main focus is to capture the situation while it's happening without trying to manipulate any
variables. Descriptive studies are usually used to find the relationship between variables, identify
patterns & trends even though they do not establish causality. According to = (Swatzell &
Jennings, 2007) descriptive research explains the typical, present and common research in the
community or population at a certain time. Schindler (2022) emphasizes that the most
fundamental queries involve “who, what, and when”. For example, a case study may have the
words “ who, what & when” to typically address the scope of things. Unlike the other questions
that are broader such as “how much” because those things are subject to change. The main focus
of the research is who is being studied- such as individuals, groups or organizations. Everyone of
those has the ability to communicate with the other and learn more about their differences. That
will be able to improve businesses, researchers, policymakers that provide the impact that may
inform future decisions.
The “what” in the question refers to the different action figures that haven’t been seen in
the industry before. The “where” entails the setting Emil strategized to secure the largest toy

store aisle space (Case Study, 2022). Emil explained in a simple, explanatory way of how the
process of creating action figures went. He decided to make his creation of action figures after he
had the idea in his mind. They were designed to honor the heroes of the tragic incident in
September 11, 2001 events (Case Study, 2022). A highlight of his creation named “ Our Her
Doll” was featuring the body of Arnold Schwarzenegger and the face of George Bush (Case
Study, 2022). Emil continued to gain attention from his creations which eventually lead him to
leading the Hero Builders.
Six key actions led to a successful research which is found in Exhibit 2-1 (Schindler,
2022). The certain criteria has the perfect application of high ethical standards, a well- defined
goal, a carefully planned design and a great source of communication limitations. Emil made it
clear to his Hero Builders business that he wanted to pay tribute to the people who died in the
September 11, 2001 attack. However in this case study it doesn't steer clear that Emil was able to
formally document his goals even though we know that he outlines them.
Emil planned and executed his plan for the action- figure business meticulously. He made
sure that his business ideas and operations were ethical and followed the most credible
principles. He found that the girls sections take up a significant portion of the toy store aisles. He
decided to explore the online sales of the action figure sales to find potential in both small and
large businesses (Case Study, 2022).
Emil was reassured by his attorney that he wouldn't face any legal actions which gave
him peace of mind. He used thorough analysis that helped him guide and benefit the most
important people. A study by Sandra Galea, published in the New England Journal of Medicine
revealed that 7.5% of residents suffer from PTSD ( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) shortly after
the 9/11 attacks (Bonanno, 2021).

Emil Vicale didn’t mention how he planned to market his goods to the local community.
Since advertising plays a big role in driving product sales. Companies such as CVS, Walmart,
and Doordash seems to use tons of customer purchase data to grab the attention of the
consumers, as mentioned in The Wall Street Journal (2021).If I were to be in his position, I
would first map out how to prioritize the advertising research then ensure that people know about
my product and they'll know where to go to find it. Next, I would do some more research on the
different pricing strategies. Pricing can be very rigorous and is a powerful tool for profitability
that can be used for consumers online comparing and contrasting from other sources (Chawla et
al., 2021).
Although he conducted research while concluding that the action figures have taken up
large portions in the aisle, he still never identified his target market. To understand what each
part of the audience needs;startups have to define what type of buyers they need. According to
Evans (2013) one of the best ways to figure it out is by seeing who determines the influencing
position while purchasing. After that the strategies for success, goals, the audience's needs and
financial problems may be resolved. Afterall, there was a long process and learning to create the
action figures. They represented something that people in America will always remember.
