CASE STUDY: HERO BUILDERS 2
What of the four types of studies are presented in this case?
According to the textbook there are four types of studies: reporting, descriptive, casual-
explanatory, and casual – predictive (Schindler, 2022). In this case, reporting and casual-
predictive studies have been used as well as Vicale and Herobuilders.com utilized exploratory
research. Exploratory research is used in investigating a specific problem that has not been
studied or investigated in the past. In this case, the type of research is commonly used when there
is not any past competitors or research (such as Hasbro). It is evident the researcher has collected
necessary data and critical market research in the industry to monitor trends relevant to their
business. Typically, observations and surveys are utilized in this data collection process and can
be highly beneficial to fall back on when comparing one’s own business data a year later.
These sorts of studies are conducted in an effort to get a deeper comprehension of an any
past or potential issues. Findings are subjective and seldom are definitive. The goal for
Herobuilders.com was to evaluate and market the potential for success in the action figure
industry. Vicale suggests the possibility of leveraging the internet as a means of expanding the
recently acquired toy firm as a method to grow Herobuilders.com. Vicale needed to make such
observations at competitors and online toy shops to comprehend his precise niche and to become
better in business than huge competitors such as Hasbro, fisher price, barbie, and more.
Using the criteria in Exhibit 2-1, evaluate the research that herobuilders.com conducted
prior to launching its hero and villain action figure business.
