Which of the four types of studies are presented in this case?
The case study presented on HeroBuilders.com provides an excellent example of the use
of a descriptive study as part of the business research process. A descriptive study, “attempts to
describe of define a subject, often by creating a profile of a group of problems, people, or events,
through the collection of data and the tabulation of the frequencies on research variables or their
interaction” (Schindler, 2019). Additionally, a descriptive study reveals the, “who, what, when,
where, or how much,” with the study itself looking at “a univariate question or hypothesis in
which the research asks about or states something about the size, form, distribution, or existence
of a variable” (Schindler, 2019). In the HeroBuilders.com case study, Emil Vicale looks into the
business research question of who in a market segment may be interested in purchasing action
figures based on the likeness of popular figures in American politics and culture shortly after
September 11, 2001. As Vicale conducted the exploratory research into the who, what, when,
where or how much, Vicale looked into how the use of the rapid prototyping (RPT) technology
his firm, BBC Design Group, was already using and leveraging that technology with his own
personal interest and possible business of expanding into the action figure market. The
