QUALITY IMPROEMENT IN HEALTHCARE OUTLINE 2
Thesis Statement: Kumah (2020) suggests that "Health care challenges,3such as high prevalence
of chronic illness,3increasing costs,3decreasing resources,3rising patient expectations and more
complex care episodes,3have exposed the inadequacy of the traditional paternalistic approach to
quality improvement"3(pg.1). The United States is behind other industrialized nations in
population measures of health (Shi & Singh, 2019, pg. 292). Measures that the U.S. is behind on
include, inadequate emphasis on disease prevention and health promotion, poor access to
primary health care, and prevailing socioeconomic and racial disparities in health and health care
(Shi & Singh, 2019, pg. 292). Greater health care expenditures and more intensive use of
medical technology do not necessarily produce better health, implying more is not always better
and does not imply better quality (Shi & Singh, 2019, pg. 292). This paper will seek to provide a
perspective that focuses on the intervention of improving the quality of care and control costs
through patient-centered care. Shifting to patient-centered care will empower the patient to
become more active in the planning and delivery of health care services. Which will improve
patient satisfaction rates and cost-effective delivery of medical services.
Questions/ Issues being addressed:
Background and history of understanding healthcare and improving Healthcare.
What challenges do hospitals or clinics understanding procedures and policy regarding
patient care? What are co-production and co-design approaches to quality improvement
(QI) efforts gaining momentum in Healthcare?
Identify the cause and effort of patients' care and how Healthcare can improve care
quality.
QUALITY IMPROEMENT IN HEALTHCARE OUTLINE 3
1. Explain the background and history of understanding healthcare and improving
Healthcare.
1. Learning about health care and how patients are treated in the healthcare system.
1. Healthcare professionals and managers must talk to, listen to, and engage with the person that
is seeking health care to find out their thoughts, values, knowledge, life situations, preferences,
and goals using her method of studies that show healthcare organizations to take their time in
evaluating the patient level of care and understanding. (Moody-Williams, J. (2020)
2. Conduct intensive training programs to help hospitals make patient care safer.
(Moody-Williams, J. (2020)
1.How does the Health Information Exchanging facilitate coordinated patient care, reduce
duplicative treatments, and avoid costly mistakes? (Moody-Williams, J. (2020)
This section will be 2-3 pages.
1. Explain the challenges does hospital or clinic understanding procedures and policy
regarding patient care?
A. Healthcare increasingly seems to include frustrating processes and unmanageable
administrative burdens that reduce the time available for patient care, with
adverse effects on health outcomes. (Batalden P.(2018)
1. How might system-wide improvement strategies and efforts usefully improve Healthcare?"
B. Let's look at quality improvement solely through a dominant product lens. We
will focus on processes, actions, and outputs, which risks neglecting relationships,

outcomes that are less easy to measure, and, most importantly, individual patient
preferences. (Batalden P.(2018)
This section 1-2 pages.
1. What are co-production and co-design approaches to quality improvement (QI) efforts
that are gaining momentum in Healthcare?
A. Individual, semi-structured interviews are conducted with 12 patients and 12 healthcare
professionals in all the six QI teams. (Bergerum, C., Engström, A. K., Thor, J., &
Wolmesjö, M. (2020)
1. What are the QI efforts in patients involved in using this method?
B. In three of the QI teams, patient representatives attended team meetings regularly. (Bergerum,
Engström, A. K., Thor, J., & Wolmesjö, M. (2020)
This section 1-2 pages.
1. Identify the cause and effort of patients' care and how Healthcare can improve care
quality.
A. Engagement of the public in defining and shaping the organization and delivery of health care
is increasingly viewed as integral to improving quality and promoting transparent decision
making. (Goodridge, D., Isinger, T., & Rotter, T. (2017).
1. What has Gaventa developed as a theoretical approach in improving Healthcare?
B. Gaventa's theory holds promise for examining the role of patient engagement in health care.
(Goodridge, D., Isinger, T., & Rotter, T. (2017).
