Are Americans becoming ruder in their interactions with one another in the business
environment?
It is essential for people in business organizations to be courteous to each other in
their interactions. There are many reasons why courtesy is an important ingredient for
successful business organizations. Firstly, it helps to create a suitable business environment
that allows all the stakeholders to perform their functions towards the realization of the goals
of the organization. Secondly, it helps to create a better society, which in the long run has
immense benefits on the organization. In the current business environment, however, there
are noticeable trends of Americans being ruder in their interaction with one another. In a
study, a public relations organization known as Weber Shandwick and KRC Research found
that 93% of Americans believe that rudeness among Americans in their public relations as
well as relations in the business organization is on the rise (Young et al., 2021). Besides, 69%
of the close to 1,500 people who participated in the polls found that rudeness is an issue of
serious concern that need to be addressed urgently. It is also important to note that the same
public relations organization has been conducting research on the same theme for the past
decade and in each year, it reports an increase in the perception of the rise of rudeness among
Americans in their interactions in the business environment.
There are many factors that could be contributing to the rise in rudeness among
Americans in their engagement and interactions in the business environment. One of these
factors is the changing nature of organizational cultures. Instructively, organizational culture
plays a critical role in determining the behavior and conduct of people (Paais, & Pattiruhu,
2020). Americans will treat each other courteously or rudely depending on the nature of the
cultures that they have established. Secondly, failed organizational leadership may be to
blame for the rise in rudeness among Americans. Leadership plays an important role in
establishing and sustaining suitable practices among organizations. Thus, to address the issue

of rudeness among Americans, it is essential to look at the cultural and leadership issues that
the organizations face.
