1. Factors Affecting Workplace and Training
Competition for employees is increasing, and this calls for having in place measures for
attracting and retaining them. However, retaining and attracting these employees will be a
problem for an organization. Employers will play a vital role in ensuring that job quality is
practiced through providing opportunities for professional development. There are factors which
affect the workplace and learning process. Employees are now working in environments which
witnessed various changes recently such as competition for skilled staff, limited advancement
opportunity, less job security, and need for additional skills.
The first force affecting the workplace is the need for additional skills. The present work
environment is ever-changing, and this means that the necessary skills for these jobs also vary. It
is therefore crucial for employees to develop new skills that suit these new jobs. The skill
requirements are rising in some job sectors. This case requires that the workforce should increase
their skills to improve the quality learning quality and the job experience. Limited opportunities
for advancement is another factor that affects the workplace and learning. There are some
companies that have their organizational structure as flat. This situation presents a situation
where there may be little opportunities for promotion. The flat structure limits employees from
advancing in their careers. These companies need to embrace the fact that the higher one goes is
not a way of achieving satisfaction with work. These organizations need to find ways of solving
the structure plans and device mechanisms for creating opportunities for the employees (Mawer,
2014).
The third force affecting workplace and learning is less job security. Employees nowadays
have less job security than before. Employers come and go, and this has a way of impacting
employees' sense of job security. Some Careers are also not guaranteed lifetime employment

with the changing employers. These situations and the reality makes employees look for
employers that will ensure the provision of opportunities that will enable them to develop
transferable skills. Having transferable skills will widen the chances for an opportunity for
employees. Competition for development is another force affecting the workplace and learning.
The present workplace environment where companies want to be leaders creates competition for
skilled employees. The competition for these employees is bound to increase when the older
generation retires from their positions. There are skills such as organizational and project
management skills that are sought after in the employment market (Mawer, 2014).
Training will help alleviate some of these forces affecting the workplace and learning. It
is the companies that are responsible for the learning process for employees. For instance, the
companies should support the employees in the training process when they spot learning
activities which makes them assets to the organization currently and in the future. This sort of
training typically improves the employee’s skills which is vital for a company. Companies
should provide training which will help the employees in meeting the fundamental competencies
necessary for the workplace. Supervisors in organizations are the ones usually tasked with this
responsibility. Training will increase the chances of job security since the employees will get
equipped with the necessary skills that will still be transferable. Forums, committees, field trips,
job aids, special projects, learning alerts, job shadowing, and job expanding are all ways through
which employees can get to learn from training (Marsik & Watkins, 2015).
