DISCUSSION INSTRUCTIONS
The student will complete 4 Discussions in this course. The student will post one thread of at
least 200 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of the assigned Module: Week. The student must
then post 2 replies of at least 100 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of the assigned
Module/Week. For each thread, students must support their assertions with at least 2 scholarly
citations in APA format. Each reply must incorporate at least 1 scholarly citation in APA format.
Any sources cited must have been published within the last five years. Acceptable sources
include scholarly sources such as Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, or the Economist (and of
course, the textbook, the Bible, etc.).
Definition
An international project is one that utilizes resources from or provides service in more
than one country, physically or virtually (Grisham, 2010).
Summary
Global/ International projects are a collaboration between organizational groups and
people from different cultures. For project managers, there are plenty of studies that focus on
how global organizations should adapt their practices to the global context of their project
(Fossum, Binder, Madsen, Aarseth, & Andersen, 2020). This paper talks about the lack of resources
available to for managerial success and project efficiency and how global projects have overrun
costs, delated deliverables and low stakeholder satisfactions (Fossum, Binder, Madsen, Aarseth, &
Andersen, 2020).
Discussion
Being able to work globally is an essential task for any company because the United
States has become one big melting pot of people and other countries have resources that we need
to help sustain ourselves. As humans, we have an innate ability to want to help others. A project

manager for a business that works globally, this will become second nature; completing a project
that will help others from another country. One main task no matter what country you work on a
project, is staying on track, and on budget. While most budget planning is completed at the
beginning stages of a project, it has been shown that a large portion of global projects are over
budget (Fossum, Binder, Madsen, Aarseth, & Andersen, 2020). The article suggests that while the
training provided for project managers and businesses completing a global project has improved
over the years, that there is still a need for continual training.
Biblical integration
Hebrews 13:16 says “ Don’t forget to do good and to share what you have because God
is please with these kinds of sacrifices” (NIV). The Lord gives us the ability to be good at certain
skills and we are supposed to used these skills to help one another. As a project manager in
charge of a global project, we are in charge of a creating something in another country that will
help the people and economy of that area. This is part of doing Gods work, doing good and
sharing what we know.

For project managers working with global projects virtually, there we not as many set
backs for communication but for the rest of the world there was. Communication is an important
role for any project manager. They must convey the right information to every one involved and
find a way to work around language and technology barriers to aide in the successful completion
of the project (CSS, 2021). If you think about it, there is one thing that covid and global projects
have taught us. That is the ability to work virtually and still accomplish our mission. Without
being about to use technology effectively, businesses wouldn’t have been able to get anything
done over the last 2 years.

Michael,
I really enjoyed your discussion and I agree with you on how the project managers role
has a tremendous impact on how the project will turn out. However, I do not agree with you
where you said that a project manager needs to put his foot down and say what I say goes and do
not question it. An effective project manager requires the need to have a strategic midset, the
ability to build a team while resolving conflict all for the greater good of the project (Alexander,
2021). The project manager needs to be able to work as a team and accept help because the
project manager will not by the subject matter expert in every area. Working together is one of
the main points of any prject and a project manager needs to be able to work together and
effectively communicate.

I really enjoyed your post and thought your summary was very interesting. I never really
looked at globalization as a negative thing but your first sentence made me think about it for a
minute. Global project have multiple challenges that a project manager must account for and
some of these challenges can negatively impact the local populace. That being said, with how
technology is today, some IT organizations can be more productive with globalization as there is
potential for 24 hour operations due to having employees in different countries. This is beneficial
as prices of travel have increased while the cost of communication and technology have
decreased (Raybould). Project managers need to take into account for all challenges good or bad
that may happen during a project.

I really enjoyed your post and the article you picked. Globalization has opened the doors
for businesses to expand and has provided opportunities to display their strengths and for their
products to be marketed and displayed across the world (Shaikh, 2012). It also has the potential to
impact the economy through local and foreign business and could have some influence on the
government. Even though there are plenty of positive attributes that can come from globalization
there are also some challenges that should be accounted for, to include political, language, and
cultural to name a few. These are all considerations that a project manager should take in to
account when dealing with a global project.

Ethics is defined as the discipline to guide behavior and help with tough decisions, or to
do what is best (Kelzi, 21).
Summary
I chose an article that talks about the ethics of a valued based leadership style in project
management. The main question that the authors want to discover is if a project manager
implements a leadership style that is more valued based and if it were to improve the process of a

project. Based on the industry that was surveyed for the research, the results shown that there
was a divergence of opinion on the quality in the criteria and gives some examples for companies
to do to help improve the ethics on jobs which includes the cultural awareness (Walker & Moylan,
2014).
Discussion
Ethics is ones beliefs on what is right or wrong and is often found in our lives daily. A
project manager should to want to do what is right for the customer and everything that
surrounds the project. Not every decision that a project manager makes is going ethically tough,
however, there are a few steps that should be taken into account when an ethical decision arises.
They are, make the assement and gain all the facts, consider the choices, identify which choices
and test its validity, apply ethical principles to your decision, and then make the decision (PMI,
2021). While this may seem like a bunch of steps it can be broken down to just two main ideas; is
it against the law, and would you want this done to you.
Biblical integration
Matthew 7:12 says “so whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them,
for this is the Law and the Prophets” (ESV). Growing up, my mother and grandmother would
always tell me to treat others the way I wanted to be treated. This is one thing that I always think

I agree with you that cryptocurrencies are intriguing and they can also be very volatile at
the same time. The stock market is very unpredictable and is always a gamble when you put
money into it. I, for one do not understand the concept of crypto and how it is mined. I feel like
that most of our money is in digital format unless we take it out of the bank, however one thing
that cryptocurrencies have is the ability to grow your money substantially. That being said, the
most ethical concern for crypto is untraceable and it could harbor illegal activity (Stubbs, 2021).
Whether you are engaged in illegal activity or not, the ethical concern is that the money you’re
investing is part of the illegal activity.

I really enjoyed your discussion and agree that culture and ethics go hand in hand. Ethics, the
foundation of right or wrong is learned from your upbringing, your culture and your surroundings.
Children are not bored racists or with the ability to be mean or steal, these are all learned behaviours.
For a business, it needs to have a good code of ethics to let everyone know what is expected of them
and there also needs to be accountability for ones actions. A good code of ethics in a business leads to
trust, leadership and this inevitably leads to project success (Planisware, 2022). For Christians, we learn
our ethics from the Bible, that we love because he loved us first, and we are merciful because he
commands us as we are living in the glory of God (John 4:19; Peter 1:15, ESV). This is ultimately how we
should enteract when conducting business either overseas or in the United States.

Summary
I chose an article that talks about Global project management and the changes that are
coming with it in the 21st century. It talks about how customers are now expecting better quality
work for less cost and they are wanting the product with quicker turn around times (Kini, 2000).
The author suggests that there are six key areas and new approaches that companies will need to
take to meet these high expectations. These six key areas within the engineering and construction
are essential to being successful and making the customer happy (Kini, 2000).
Discussion
I think in the past decade people have become very reliant on everything being instant or
close to it. With high speed internet or two day delivery with Amazon prime, customers are
becoming more dependant on instant gradification. This goes for any sort of job that a project
manager will encounter in our current age. A project manager needs to be able to manage, hit

every target that is required of the customer and be able to tell the customer when some of their
expectations are unrealistic. While every project will have normal challenges, global projects
will face other other challenges that need to be addressed before the it starts, to include culture,
language, and politics. These are all things a project manager needs to account for when dealing
with a global project.

I really liked your analogy about the light and your bible reference. As Christians it is our
purpose to make sure that we are always doing the right thing. Doing the right thing is like the
light, it will always shine through and people will see it. For a project manager, doing the right
thing in a global project is making sure everyone is aware of the various dimensions that are
involved in it’s success. These would include culture and organizations that are spread across
multiple countries, time zone and various different languages (Binder, 2009). A project manager

must use their knowledge and experience to teach his team and have a good starting point at the
beginning of a global project.

I really enjoyed your article and reading about success factors in global projects. The
article talks about how there are few publications that discuss organizational support in project
management and why there is a need for it. Organizational support can be tangible by providing
an adequate technological infrastructure or it can be intangible by showing care and
understanding (Anderson et al. 2019). I think that for a global project, there needs to be training
from the organization on the culture, language and people to where the project will take place.
Without there proper training, there could be conflict due to miscommunication. This
miscommunication and conflict could ultimately prolong the project and make the customer and
host nation unhappy.
