Strategic Growth and Human Capital Planning
Many issues must be considered when the company decides to expand into other areas of
the country. What are the areas which the company plans to expand? What is the timeline? Will
it occur in all areas at once or one at a time? Will the company open at full production or open in
a scaled-down operation mode?
For the meeting I will have prepared an estimate of the amount of employees that will be
needed and what skill-level that those employees will need for a successful expansion. Forecasts
aren’t set in stone and can be affected by changes in location, errors, or other factors. However,
by interviewing key personnel at the existing location, experienced people should reach an
estimate of the amount of employees required for each location and what skills the new positions
require (Valentine, et al., 2020).
After reaching an estimate of the amount and skill-level of human resources needed to
expand into a new territory, the supply of those new employees will have to be determined
(Valentine, et al., 2020). I will study each territory to determine if the supply is available to
meet the estimated demand. Are people moving into or out of the new areas? What are the
dominant professions in the regions? Demographic information will help determine whether
there will be enough people with the needed skills to meet the required estimate. Finding highly
skilled employees is challenging and replacing those employees can be costly (Hamilton &
Davison, 2018). Therefore, the company needs to ensure the employee pools in the locations are
sufficient to meet the estimated demand.
The differences in cultures, ideas, religious beliefs, etc… of the proposed locations needs
to be researched. Employees don’t change when they come to work. The company needs to
3
respect the differences and ensure their policies follow laws in place to safeguard the employees’
rights. (Singh & Babbar, 2021)
I strive to apply the Lords word to all aspects of my life. In this expansion, I would pray
diligently that the work I perform be in His will and be used to Glorify Him in this world. The
Bible says, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, (Col 3:23, ESV).
The Lord also says to be diligent in what you do- Preparation before action. Strategic Planning is
something the Lord expects His people to do before moving forward. In Luke 14:28-30 the Lord
said, “For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost,
whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able
to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to
finish.’(ESV)
