In conducting research to discover what the main and most common types of
workplace violence I realized that most all the articles that meet this search
are in reference to the nursing industry. After further researching this, I
stumbled across this scholarly article by the National Library of Medicine that
further sheds some light on the workplace violence in the nursing industry
and why it is so relevant. “Violence against nurses in their workplace is a
major global problem that has received increased attention in recent
years. 1 Links to an external site. Approximately 25% of registered nurses
report being physically assaulted by a patient or family member, while over
50% reported exposure to verbal abuse or bullying. 2 Links to an external

patients are victimized at a significantly higher rate than other health‐care
professionals, 3 Links to an external site. and it is estimated that workplace
violence causes 17.2% of nurses to leave their job every year.” (Al-Qadi,
2021). Additionally, I think it is important to include what the American
Nursing Association has to say about the regulation lack in the nursing field
when it comes to what is being done to prevent future violence. “Currently,
there is no specific federal statute that requires workplace violence
protections, butseveral states have enacted legislation or regulations Links

We support these moves by individual states, and are actively advocating
further, more stringent regulation.” (ANA, 2017). As we have learned in our
course text in order for employees to perform well in any job environment,
the environment itself has to be able to positively affect the individual
working. “The economic health of organizations depends on the performance
of employees, which is driven by their ability and motivation to perform well.
Employers must find ways to positively affect elements of individual–
organization relationships so that employees contribute positively to
organizational objectives and outcomes.”
