DISCUSSION BOARD 6
Leadership and Management
Throughout this course many topics have been covered, and a lot has been accomplished
through the collaboration of an assigned group. Discussing the lessons that have been learned
from the group and from the group processes is important to understanding what it is like to
work as a team within an organization.
Lessons Learned About Groups and Group Processes
Working in groups can be a challenge, especially when the group members never actually
get to meet in person because they are all participating in an online course and living in different
areas of the country. Through this course I have learned that if a group is committed to a
common goal and each member is willing to put in the necessary work to achieve it, then the
whole group will be successful. As a group we were able to collaborate and work together each
week to make sure our assignments were complete and to meet the requirements of the
assignment, additionally as a group we were there to support each other throughout the course
and provide encouragement even during the weeks that didn’t require group participation.
Through this I learned that a group is not only working to achieve a common goal, but also a
support system to encourage others and provide guidance when needed.
Resilient Leaders Three Concepts
Character
According to Gini and Green (2014), leadership is based on character, and character can
be expressed as a combination of personal qualities that an individual is known for, this includes

the individual’s personality, moral values, moral commitments, beliefs, and ideologies. Bad
character that is exhibited by a leader is not something that will promote business success, a
leader must create an organizational culture that culture that will contribute to the organization’s
success (Vogel, 2017). When a manager works to exercise good leadership within the
organization, both the employee and the organization will benefit (Satterlee, 2018).
Vision
Vision is defined as “a clear focus upon a future end state that propels self and others
forward with expectation and perseverance” (Dees, 2013, p.160). Satterlee (2018) described that
in order to be an effective leader, the leader must have vision and be able to determine what the
organization should become. Leaders make the plans for the organization’s future, as well as
preparing their followers for this future (Satterlee, 2018). When a leader lacks vision they will
fail to engage their followers in the organization’s goals, and visions for the organization
(Denton, 2013).
Integrity
“Integrity is a quality you develop by adhering to moral principles. It requires that you do
and say nothing deceives others. As your integrity grows, so does the trust others place in you”
(Dees, 2013, p.81). When a leader exhibits high levels of integrity, this shows that the leader can
be trusted, and provides a sense of certainty to the follower (Palanski, Cullen, Gentry, & Nichols,
2015). Integrity is easy to recognize in a leader and is easy for a leader to always exercise by
simply doing the right thing at all times similar to exhibiting good character (Martin, 2017).
Conclusion

DISCUSSION BOARD 6
Character, vision, and integrity are three important concepts that a leader must exhibit to
ensure the success of themselves, their followers, and their organization. In order to be a great
and successful leader all three of these concepts must be shown. Too often when a leader is
lacking one of these three concepts the employees of an organization and the organization suffer.
