The Malpractice Apology
Overview
Over the years initiatives have been taken to include medical apologies after malpractice
in clinical practice and education. Some countries have incorporated these apologies to be part of
the law. Apologies after a medical error or malpractice have been found to relieve suffering for
both the nurse and patient in question in coping with the consequences of the medical
malpractice. My annotated bibliography will identify different sources that detail the apology
laws that have been enacted and their liabilities, the religious perspective of the apologies, the
measures to prevent the need for apologies, and the programs that have been already
implemented. I work as a nurse and my main job is to provide my patients with quality care each
day but I always experience medical dilemmas and situations that require good judgment and
adherence to an ethic that guides me as a nurse.
