TEAM MANAGEMENT
Abstract
Management tools need to be thoughtfully chosen at all times for positive outcomes. When
managing teams, the different tools need to be considered for all employees being supervised.
Communication is an effective tool to understand and know how to use well with a team for its
synergy. Communication can lead to great outcomes. When improper ways of communicating
are used, it can also lead to negative outcomes by causing the team to fraction. When successful
communication has been achieved, teams can work well together. Giving recognition is a useful
tool for team morale and achievements. Recognition can be performed for many reasons and in
many ways. There are pitfalls to giving recognition as well, which can lead to issues within the
team. Giving recognition needs to be used correctly and not as a joke in order for it to lead to
positive outcomes for the workplace and for the individuals on a professional level.

Team Management
Introduction
There are many management concepts to consider when taking on a management role. It
is essential to take steps to make sure the right one is chosen for the best result. "A suitable
leadership style that fits into a particular situation is absolutely important" (Thoha & Avandana,
2020, p. 804). When managing a team, styles are important in so many variables. Managers
should be aware that anything can happen when they are navigating a leadership role.
Furthermore, situations can have many variables.
Team Management Concept of Communication
Communication Concept Description
The team management concept of communication comes in many forms and can be
verbal, written, auditory (Beardsworth, 2020). The concepts are not limited to three. Visual can
be something posted someone or by watching another person’s body language when interacting.
Communication can be formal and informal. However, one thing to avoid is communicating
"with long words, vast and confusing concepts, and information overloads" (Momeny &
Gourgues, 2019). There also may be more than one approach needed to connect with all
members of the team. "From a wise mind comes wise speech; the words of the wise are
persuasive" (Proverbs 16:23, New Living Translation). Choosing the right way to communicate
for team management is vital and wise.
Concept Strengths regarding Synergy
There are many strengths of having successful communication for a team's synergy.
Making particular communication style choices adds to the team's synergy because there would
be an understanding of the expectations and outcomes. "Effective interactions and
4
TEAM MANAGEMENT
communications between participants are vital to fulfil these essential needs" (Chehade et al.,
2020, p. 307). When the needs of a project or assignment are met, the team morale grows. The
team also learns from the intention of the management and how they communicate. Good
communication builds strength among the team members. Both management and team members
benefit from making the right communication concept choices.
Concept Weaknesses regarding Synergy
It may seem that having good communication concepts would have no weaknesses, but
there are. People receive and give communication in many different ways. "Ineffective
communication between actors can lead to misunderstanding and misinterpretation of a situation,
which can cause a lack of awareness" (Chehade et al., 2020, p. 308). If a manager does not
ensure their team members receive communication the way they need it, it can lead to issues in
the team like misunderstanding and misinterpretation. Some team members may not do what is
expected or they may do what is expected but not achieve the desired results. Others in the team
may feel like things are falling on them if others do not understand what communication is
happening.
Team management Concept of Recognition
Concept Description
The team management concept of recognition is something that can be done in many
ways and be useful in many ways. "Recognition is a feeling of being noticed and appreciated
(like a simple gesture through newsletters or even a public applause)" (Sreejith et al., 2020, p.
229). There are valid reasons to give recognition, and a few are if someone were to get a
promotion, successfully completed a big project, or a work anniversary. Furthermore, giving a
person or a group of people acknowledgment publicly for something they did is a successful way

to give recognition. Managers can also give individuals or groups acknowledgment for
something they did privately. This concept can range from simply providing the
acknowledgment as a verbal declaration, an award of some kind, or a gift of recognition.
Concept Strengths regarding Synergy
Giving employees recognition can increase productivity, group and individual morale, the
engagement of the employees, and employees satisfaction. We have also been instructed by God
to give recognition, "Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it's in your power to
help them" (Proverbs 3:27, New Living Translation). When recognition is given to the team it
will lead to a positive thought toward the team. "Employee recognition can be seen as a form of
positive feedback strengthening the employee's behavior, or highlighting the achievement of an
objective or specific task. It also enhances the employee's satisfaction, motivation, and morale"
(Masri & Abubakr, 2019, p.129).
Concept Weaknesses regarding Synergy
Giving employee(s) recognition can lead to negative side effects on the synergy of the
team. If there is recognition given to one or just a few team members, it can build jealously and
also lead to unhealthy competition within the team. However, this does not mean that recognition
needs to be given to all members, but it should always be given justly. If managers chose to give
recognition to appease team members, the power of this concept would lose its positive impact.
Conclusion
When a person is in a management position, there are always decisions and situations that
need to be addressed. For the concepts discussed, positive outcomes are possible. When choosing
the right communication concept, managers need to be aware of how their employees
communicate in order for the information to be successfully received. It is important to

remember that not all people receive information the same way and it is important to conduct
each concept appropriately.
