Abstract
Christian managers face dilemmas when dealing with underperforming employees
because of the need to align their decisions with the values of their Biblical teachings. The case
scenario presented an example of this situation and provided the tool for examining the
alignment of the manager's decision with consideration for God's character and otherwise. The
findings from the analysis showed that while the management of the situation reflected God's
character, it excluded one of the best practices for improving employee performance. Therefore,
we concluded with recommendations on the measures that create a balance between the
scriptural perspective and organizational policy for employment termination due to poor
performance.
Introduction
Underperforming employees present challenges to employers due to the adverse impacts
of the outcomes on the overall attainment of organizational tactical and strategic objectives. The
situation is more challenging when the underperforming employee is a manager who is
responsible for supervising and coordinating the workforce to deliver their results from their
respective functions (Tziner & Levy, 2017). The case scenario presented some of the examples
of the performance issue that occurs at the managerial level is the creation of a hostile work
environment for subordinates through the mistreatment of subordinates, verbal assaults, and
failure to provide resources for the performance of work duties. Therefore, it is critical analysis
