Organizational management and leadership demands…
The following paragraphs will attempt to define the key concepts of self-care,
XXXX and XXXX, and demonstrate their role in organizational management, leadership
and their relevance to a Christian worldview.
Self-Care
Self-Care “refers to activities or processes that are initiated and managed by the
worker for the purpose of supporting one’s health and well-being…” (Bressi & Vaden,
2017, p. 34). Self-care is predicated on the fact in order for us to act externally; we first
need to be at peace internally. Dees (2013) explains the concept of self-care by providing
the analogy of an airline emergency in which you need to put on your oxygen mask first
so that you can remain conscious and help others (p. 246). In this scenario it is easy to
see the necessity to exercise self-care, but it is important to remember that this is a
universal concept. Our personal wellbeing is the foundation from which all our actions
and effectiveness flow. In order for us to maintain a balance in our personal and
professional lives, we must exercise Self-Care (Bressi, 2017. P. 34).
Strategies for Implementation
Organizations can encourage self-care by establishing a culture of acceptance.
Employees should be made to feel that the organization cares about their wellbeing.
Organizations can accomplish this by establishing a peer support system, engaging
chaplains, and engaging the families of its employees. Organizational leaders can begin
to create an open and accepting culture by talking about their own struggles.
Organizations can also provide counseling to employees when warranted. This is

especially important in the military, public safety, and any time an organization
experiences a trauma.
Biblical Integration
The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 3:16 (English Standard Version) “Do you not
know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?” Therefore, we
should treat our mind, body and soul like the temple God intended it to be. Galatians 6:2
English Standard Version) “Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
Organizations and Leaders must be in tune with the wellbeing of their employees and be
there to help them carry their burdens. Christians are called by God to encourage one
another. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (English Standard Version) “Therefore encourage one
another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”
