Case Study -Training Methods for Bank Tellers
BB&T is an organization that has grown from a business checking account to a
significant merchant service provider. Considering the company's branches' huge growth rate
and diversification, the presentation training approach is the most effective approach to training
technique that the company can use. However, this should be implemented progressively owing
to the complexity of this technique. At first, the company should use audiovisual training
techniques. This training approach uses visual aids, audio aids, or a combination of the two. A
combination of visual and audio aids during the training process provides a quick understanding
and an overview of its expectations.
After audiovisual training, the company needs to shift to on-the-job training techniques.
This approach refers to a hands-on method that aims at enhancing the competencies, skills, and
knowledge employees need to complete a task. On-the-job emphasizes the lessons trainees
learned through audiovisual training. Both trainers and managers need to work hand in hand to
help trainees internalize and apply the newly acquired skills.
Trainees are also very likely to make minor and major mistakes when applying the newly
acquired skills. Slow learners might make even more serious mistakes that might cause huge
losses to the company if not intervened on time. Therefore, BB&T also needs a hands-on training
approach. These training tactics aim at improving an employee's soft skills. Trainees are
required to learn by applying the new skills within a safe environment. Therefore, individuals
who forget quickly and can hardly learn by passively listening to an audiovisual training or a
presentation are also motivated to take active roles during the hands-on training approach.

In the current environment, a single training approach can hardly work for most
organizations. A good number of companies are combining several training approaches to ensure
employees benefit maximally from the exercise.
