In your reading of Deuteronomy 1:17, Psalms 119:89 and Acts 15:36 -40, what does the Bible have to
say about conflict as discussed in Chapter 6 of the textbook? What was the cause of conflict (task,
relationship or process) in each of these verses? What conflict management style is advocated in
each of the verses? Provide specific examples from each verse in your response.
Selected
Answer:
Deut 1:17 models for us how the church should listen to all of its members and not pass
judgment on an issue because of how simple or difficult it may seem. The cause of
conflict in this verse is relationship conflict. Relationship conflict in this case is
managed through collaboration, "hearing both the great and the small" and if the team
is unable to handle the problem, then allow the leader (God) to make the final
decision. Psalm 119:89 ties into this because God's word will have the final say
when collaboration is unable to produce an effective outcome.
Acts 15: 36-50 Paul and Barnabas have a sharp disagreement about whether to take
John with them as they went to visit every city to share the gospel. Paul and Barnabas
were experiencing Task Conflict because they both had different expectations or vision
for the task at hand. In dealing with this conflict, Paul and Barnabas displayed the
conflict management style of competition. The disagreement became very sharp
between them and both were concerned about winning the conflict. Paul and
Barnabas did not manage the competition to their advantage which caused a split
between two. This weakened their bond as a team and it became a "us versus them"
attitude. The split lef

From your reading of Titus 1:4-5, Ephesians 4:11 and I Corinthians 12 provide specific examples of
the wisdom the authors had regarding employee recruitment and selection? Relate to specific topics
in Chapter 7.
Selected
Answer:
Paul was a great recruiter, in Titus 1:4-5 he uses external recruiting and tasks Titus to go
out into the town and appoint Elders. Titus follows Paul's guidance and goes out into
the town with a job description. The job description is very specific, "the husband of
one wife, having children who believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion" (Titus
4:6)
Ephesians 4:11 demonstrates that each position within the church serves a different
purpose. The job description and titles range from pastor, and teachers to prophets
and evangelist. Each position requires a different skill set and as these individuals are
identified within the church we see a from of internal recuitment.
1 Chor 12 lays out the vision and structure of the church (organization). It also
describes different career paths within the church and how those individual paths
contribute to the overall growth of the church. Each part of the church serves as
different purpose, but each part serves to make the body stronger and more whole.
This concept ties in with Talent Management aspect of implementing strategy. People
have different strengths and those strengths should be leveraged for the benefit of the
whole. Despite the conflict, Paul used his anger to fuel his passion to reach the church
in both Syria and Cilicia.
