Influence of Changes in Leadership and Management Styles in Improving Employment
Situations
Leadership is about bringing out the best in oneself as well as in others. Inspiring the
juniors can only happen when the followers think that their leader is a person of integrity,
selfless, and one who is open to receiving feedback from the stakeholders around them (Huizing,
2022). This paper is about selflessness, integrity, and courage; and these three are some of the
most critical factors which distinguish a successful leader from the ordinary ones.
Concepts Affecting My Company
Selflessness
A selfless individual shows a lot of concern for other people. In most cases, they even
subordinate their own interests to those of the individuals around them. Selflessness is the belief
that a major part of success is about helping others as much as possible. When the leader is
selfless, they tend to always be focused on empowering their juniors, and they hardly ever
perceive their peers as competitors (Huizing, 2022).
Selflessness facilitates the reduction of the negative office politics. The stakeholders are
in a position to remain focused on realizing the right goals. Additionally, the absence of personal
agenda in decision making enhance their acceptability, and hence the entire team can work
harmoniously as the individuals pursue common goals (Iodice, 2019). Unfortunately, there are
instances when leaders and managers become selfish, and I know this from personal experience.
I used to work under a leader who was keen on being recognized for the successes of the
team. Unfortunately, most of the followers knew that this was the case. Every time a decision
was made, therefore, the juniors would always feel as if they were working to fulfill the private
3
interests of a single individual. According to Huizing (2022), it is advisable to be selfless in order
to improve cooperation between the team members.
Integrity
A person of integrity is reputed as having consistent moral principles. Above all, they
tend to be honest, and hence they champion ethical conduct in public as well as privately. In
essence, therefore, one can always trust that the individual they meet one day will be exhibiting
the same traits several years down later. For instance, such a person is deemed to always be
gracious, trustworthy, respectful, and helpful (Bawden, Macis-Riley, & Hickin, 2022).
Those who have integrity have the tendency to live in accordance to their deepest values.
They invaluably keep their word, and this makes them good candidates for leadership positions.
Besides being beneficial to others, those with integrity tend to be happy, confident, and have
high self-esteem. In essence, therefore, the trait is mutually beneficial; and Bawden et al. (2022)
argue that almost successful leader embodies it.
I have worked with individuals who lacked integrity. For instance, the same leader who
was selfish could always change his mind and deny making decisions which resulted in failure.
My colleagues would shun him for fear of being blamed for the mistakes they never made.
Bawden et al. (2022) have concluded that dishonest leaders never steer their organizations to
success, and hence this negative trait ought to be avoided.
Courage
Courage refers to the capacity to control one’s fear to the point where they are willing to
do something that is unpleasant or difficult. Among the things which courageous leaders engage
in is consultation with their juniors, and soliciting their honest opinions about various situations.

Some leaders would prefer taking an approach where they are unlikely to face uncertainties.
They fail to consult because they fear what the other stakeholders might say (Iodice, 2019).
When a leader is courageous, a culture of respect and trust emerges. As a consequence,
the individuals around them feel compelled to follow such a leader; and hence courage is
actually one of the foundations for success. Courage does also spur the evolution and
development within the organization in question. As an example, Steve Jobs was never afraid to
try anything he deemed to be worthwhile at the time when he was the CEO of Apple, Inc. This is
the reason why his company thrived and exceeded expectation in terms of performance (Huizing,
2022).
A friend of mine narrated the story of how a culture of fear had persisted at the
organization where he works. Ordinary employees were frightened of asking any questions
because they believed that they would be reprimanded. The leaders feared consulting one another
to avoid a scenario where their ideas were stolen. Such a worldview ought to be revised, and the
stakeholders should have the confidence to share ideas with one another. Doing so would
enhance the levels of intellect and creativity, and enable the firm to realize its business goals
(Iodice, 2019).
Biblical Integration of the Concepts
The Bible in 1 Corinthians 10:24 teaches that nobody should focus on seeking their
personal advantages. Instead, a Christian should pursue the things which are beneficial to others,
especially to the people around them. In Galatians 5:14, the Bible underscores the need for
loving the neighbor as oneself (King James Bible, 2023). In essence, therefore, selflessness is
unambiguously encouraged in the Bible; and any leader hoping to succeed in their endeavors
should heed these messages.

In Proverbs 28:6, the Bible teaches that it is far better to remain poor than to perverse
one’s ways in a bid to acquire riches. The message in Proverbs 21:3 is that integrity is a lot better
than engaging in sacrifice (King James Bible, 2023). In essence, the Bible encourages Christians
to retain their integrity inspite of all the temptations to become unethical. Negative conduct is
always counterproductive, and hence leaders hoping to make their firms sustainable ought to
avoid it.
The Bible in Psalm 31:24 teaches Christians to always be strong and never be afraid. In
Isaiah 41:10, God promises to support the righteous in all their endeavors (King James Bible,
2023). The idea is that it is improper to avoid interactions out of the fear of being misunderstood
or reprimanded. If one is righteous and works hard, they are highly likely to succeed because the
Bible says that God will always come to their aid.
Concepts Affecting My Leadership
I have ever been affected by a state of mental tension, and I remember that it was due to
the fear of missing an important deadline. In that organization, such a mistake could have
resulted into my demotion and a warning letter, and so I was working hard to save my budding
career. I have since started getting organized, and I rarely suffer from work-related stress.
In the past, I used the terms stress and burn-out interchangeably. I now appreciate that
they are different because with burn-out, one does not even have the energy to continue working.
The last time I suffered from burnout, I was not even able to make decisions; and so I could not
work. the solution to burnouts is to allow oneself adequate time to rest. Burnout originates from
fatigue, and hence relaxation can help solve this problem by replenishing the individual
concerned.

Conclusion
Courage, selflessness, and integrity are three of the most important traits which any
leader ought to have. These traits inspire consultations, and convince the juniors that they ought
to follow their leader. In almost all cases, each of these factors contributes to the growth and
sustainability of the business enterprise in question. Above all, however, it is imperative to heed
to the lessons of the Bible because this religious text shares timeless wisdom that enables those
who obey to live a fulfilling life.
