Abstract
The Meyers Briggs personality test and my four temperaments became clear to me in this
research. Within this paper, I will talk about the many challenges and characteristics of my ESTJ
personality and how they influences the world I live in. When it comes learning my preferences,
this personality test has helped me learn a lot about myself. Furthermore, the test has also helped
me learn a lot about other people as well. After I took the tests, I began to get to know all of my
strengths and weaknesses. I will use this to better my knowledge of others and my life. In this
paper I have included readings from all of the sources provided to give you a good understanding
of my particular personality. “As a young psychiatrist, Jung turned to Freud to understand the
complexities of human relationship. It was the pain and confusion he felt over their differences,
as well as the clinical need to make married couples “plausible to each other,” that led him to
explore personality types” (Jung 1971, CW 6, 533).

Section 1
According to the Jung Typology Test, ESTJs flourish on order and continuity within their
lives. Furthermore, I am considered to be extraverted in nature, my focus includes an
organization of people, that converts into supervision. “While ENTJs enjoy organizing and
mobilizing people according to their own theories and tactically based agendas, ESTJs are
content to enforce "the rules," often dictated by tradition or handed down from a higher authority.
ESTJs are joiners” (HumanMetrics, 2020). The test also says that I, seek out like-minded
individuals in clubs, civic groups, churches and all other types of organizations. Also, the desire
for belonging to something is intertwined into the DNA of SJs. “The family likewise is a central
focus for ESTJs, and attendance at such events as weddings, funerals and family reunions is
obligatory” (HumanMetrics, 2020).
Traditions are also an important part of life to the ESTJ. “Holidays, birthdays and other
annual celebrations are remembered and observed often religiously by this type. The ESTJ is
inclined to seek out his roots, to trace the family heritage back to honored ancestors both for a
sense of family respectability and for a sense of security and belonging” (HumanMetrics, 2020).
Service is the most tangible expression of an ESTJ, and responsibility is another main focus. We
Project 1 4
love to provide for people and to receive goods and services. “ESTJs have an acute sense for
orthodoxy. Much of their evaluation of persons and activities reflects their strong sense of what
is "normal" and what isn't. ESTJ humor is frequently centered around something or someone
being off center or behaving abnormally” (HumanMetrics, 2020).
Just like other decisive types, ESTJs tend to run the risk of deciding on things too
quickly, even before they have fully examined the situation. We feel that we need to stop and
listen to the other people’s viewpoints, particularly with people who may not be in a position to
talk back. This is rarely easy for us, but if we do not take time to understand people or situations,
we may judge them way too quickly, even without plenty of facts or regard for what other people
may think or feel. ESTJs as a whole, may need to work on taking feelings into account. We tend
to rely on our logical approach and overlook feelings and values on what we care about and what
other people care about.
“Psychological Types was first published in 1921, and Jung's insights were quickly
quantified into tests and adapted by the fields of human resources, career coaching, and
organizational development, advertising, sales, and marketing” (Andrews, 2014). Furthermore, it
was very likely that the last thing Jung wanted, was a system that pigeonholed or even type
casted people while overlooking their complexity.
Section 2
E- Extravert:
I have always known that my personality type was a bit extraverted. I am pretty good
with communicating with other people and I am a very open person most of the time. Extraverts
in my opinion can also be somewhat introverted at times. I myself, like to be alone from time to
time. “Extraverts are individuals whose attention is chronically directed outward, away from
Project 1 5
themselves (i.e., Jung’s chosen word, extraverted, literally means “turned outward”) (Cuperman
& Ickles, 2009).
S- Sensing:
When it comes to learning, I am more of a hands on learner rather than from reading or
distance learning. Furthermore, I tend to like to do things with like-minded people or people I
trust and feel safe around. “The secondary Introverted Sensing is like that of the ISTJ, but not as
strong. Si provides practical form and concept data to the head, however, form is not the
overriding principle, especially if Thinking has already decided. In times of need, ESTJs are
tempted to overlook even necessary information if its absence impedes closure” (HumanMetrics,
2020).
T- Thinking:
I tend to think logically and leave emotion out of the equation when making big
decisions. I tend to do a lot of thinking and my mind wanders, but I do try and find the truth in all
situations. “ESTJs are very good at making impersonal decisions quickly, and standing by those
decisions. They live in their Extraverted Thinking functioning, thus, their prime directive is in
discovering that which is true and logical in the events of the real world” (HumanMetrics, 2020).
J- Judging:
ENTJs, including myself, can be very candid and decisive. I am also very outspoken, my
words can sometimes hurt the feelings of others, and this is one of my biggest weaknesses. “As
the ESTJ matures, and as situations arise which call for suspension of criticism, Extraverted
intuition is allowed to play. Under the leadership of the function, intuition gravitates toward the
discovery of broad categories which at worst amount to stereotypes. Those ESTJs who hone their
abilities may find success in academia” (HumanMetrics, 2020).

Section 3
According to “Portrait of an ESTJ - Extraverted Sensing Thinking Judging” I am “The
Guardian”. “As an ESTJ, your primary mode of living is focused externally, where you deal with
things rationally and logically. Your secondary mode is internal, where you take things in via
your five senses in a literal, concrete fashion. The ESTJ is usually a model citizen, and pillar of
the community. He or she takes their commitments seriously, and follows their own standards of
"good citizenship" to the letter. ESTJ enjoys interacting with people, and likes to have fun”
(BSM Consulting, 2015).
“The four temperaments according to “Keirsey” are artisan, guardian, idealist and
rational. Keirsey's four temperaments can be further subdivided, often referred to as "Character
Types" or "Personality Types." There are four types of Artisans, four types of Guardians, four
types of Rationales, and four types of Idealists, which make up for 16 types in total”(. As a
guardian it says my self-image of the four temperament is that I am reliable, respectable and
service. Of the sixteen types I am an ESTJ or supervisor. After review of all the sites listed I have
learned a lot about my personality and my type.
Kopel 2018, gave me some examples of my strengths and weaknesses. The strengths are
Practical and realistic, Dependable, Self-confident, Hard-working, Traditional and Strong
leadership skills. My weaknesses are Insensitive, Inflexible, Not good at expressing feelings,
Argumentative and Bossy. “People with this personality type are sociable and enjoy getting their
friends involved in activities that they enjoy. ESTJs often value dependability over almost
everything else. If you are a stable friend who sticks to your commitments, you will likely be
able to forge a strong friendships with an ESTJ” (Kopel, 2018). “Some of the most recent
creative thinking about typology comes from John Beebe who relates the eight functions or
Project 1 7
modes of consciousness to archetypal complexes, considering how one's personal typology
relates to the hero/heroine, puer/puella, the mother/father image, the animus and anima, and the
shadow” (Andrews, 2014).
Romans 12:4-6 “For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all
have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members
one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if
prophecy, in proportion to our faith;” (NIV).
