PROJECT 2 2
Abstract
Through this work, I was able to learn many interesting new pieces of information about
others and myself. I learned about some areas where I could improve as well as other areas
where I excel. Moving forward, I plan to focus my attention on the areas through which I
will be able to improve in order to improve my organizational behavior tendencies. I was
able to determine that these areas include, delegation, communication, and trust. I need to
be more willing and able to trust others to complete a project. This will require me to
delegate more often and hone my communication skills so I am able to rest assured that I
have given clear instruction. This is just one example of how I will be able to improve
through the insights addressed in this work.
PROJECT 2 3
Step 1
Part I: What about me?
Personality Insights
The Big Five were associated with the personality insights quiz; these aspects
included extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness
to experience. I scored high on extroversion, conscientiousness, and emotional stability. I
scored moderately on agreeable and openness to new experiences. I believe these findings
are accurate in that I am extremely extroverted, I would be very unhappy in a job that did
not allow me to use my interpersonal skills.
Values and Attitude Insights
The values evaluation was very insightful. I found it incredibly interesting that most
individuals in the same careers field rank items similarly (Pearson Education, 2008). I
ranked salvation as most important in terms of terminal values. I believe this will vary from
most individuals in the workplace unless they share the same principles of faith. In terms of
instrumental values, I ranked hard work and achievement most highly. I believe that this is
in agreement with others in the field.
Motivation Insights
At this time, I am most intensely motivated by growth needs. This is due to the fact
that I am not attaining the growth and development that I desire from my current role. I am
also heavily motivated by existence needs because the pay in my current role is
unsatisfactory based on the average standard of living for the area where I live. I am
currently seeking other positions that will hopefully provide the growth and existence
PROJECT 2 4
needs that I am currently lacking. It is my goal to find another role where I am able to fulfill
my power and achievement needs.
Decision Making Insights
According to the quiz, I have extremely strong self-efficacy. I believe this allows me
to decide to take on larger and more challenging tasks. I usually feel very confident when
facing new challenges. Through the quiz, I was able to determine that I am not a
procrastinator. I would agree that I am usually quick to make a decision after allowing a
proper amount of time to consider the options.
Other Insights
I found that I scored very highly in terms of emotional intelligence. It has been found
that the adaptive perception of emotion, use of emotion to enhance cognition,
understanding of emotion and regulation of emotion may contribute to mental and physical
health in various ways (Hassan, F. Seyed, M.K. Tamijid, K. Robabeh, D. 2015). I believe that
emotional intelligence is similar to a muscle and the more you work on it, the stronger it
will be. Working in the retail industry, I am constantly pushed and stretch to adapt to
different personalities and circumstances. Due to this frequency, I am able to remain
confident and comfortable under this pressure.
I found it very interesting to know that I am not explicitly a morning person but I
tend to lean toward being a morning person. I believe our rhythms change with our
lifestyle. Now that I am in the routine of it, I love rising early and starting my day with
exercise. I believe it helps me to be more productive during work hours.
Part II: Working with Other
Communication Skills
PROJECT 2 5
In terms of communication, I scored very close to the average in all categories. I
believe this helps me to be an effective communicator to all individuals due to the fact that I
am able to chameleon my communication style to each persons style. I was able to learn
that I can further develop my listening skills. I need to practice focusing instead of allowing
myself to become distracted.
Leadership and Team Skills
From the leadership quiz, I was able to learn that I have a good balance between
people and task orientation. I also concluded that I should focus on developing these
characteristics due to the fact that I scored in the average range for both when ideally I
should have scored highly. Being able to communicate a message more clearly will help me
in being a more charismatic leader. I am looking forward to developing this skill.
Power and Conflict Skills
My Machiavellianism score was just above the average in the United States. It is
interesting to note that I do not prefer to use coercive power; I would much rather use any
other form of power. Coercive power has a very negative connotation in my head as it does
for most people. I cannot think of a single person I know who is truly motivated through
this practice, although, everyone responds differently in these types of situations (Power,
conflict, & negotiation presentation (n.d.).
Part III: Life in Organizations
Organization Structure
I was able to determine that I prefer a mechanistic organizational structure as
opposed to organic. It is evident that I would feel flustered and confused in an organization
that did not already have systems in place. Delegating more frequently would be another
PROJECT 2 6
area in which I could use some development. I will be able to give feedback well after
delegating a task; I was able to determine that my feedback skills are strong.
Careers
I am suited for either a large or small organization; there was flexibility for that
according to my personality. One thing that cannot be compromised is work-life balance.
This is something that will be essential in my career moving forward.
Change and Stress
I can improve in the area of stress management. I tend to become too consumed by a
particular situation at times. Although, I struggle with stress, I am fairly adaptable to
change. At times, I even look forward to it.
Step 2
From these personality tests, I have been reminded that no two individuals area the
same. I believe adjusting my leadership style to many different individuals shows strength
as a good leader. It is also important for me to remember that I am not always going to like
or agree with my managers leadership style. Being aware of the information in these
quizzes will help me to make more informed decisions moving forward.
I have been able to identify that there are a few areas that I can work on developing.
Delegating is something I struggle with; it is difficult for me to trust someone else when I
will be the one taking the responsibility if something is done poorly. I need to overcome this
by addressing the improvement needed to my communication skills. If I communicate
clearly and check my employees work, there is no reason I should not be able to increase
my delegating ability.
Step 3
PROJECT 2 7
When considering personality types, I am reminded of Psalm 139:13-19 which
speaks about how we were knit together in our mothers womb and that all our days were
ordained by God before we were even created. This means He created us with the
personalities that he had planned for us to have. He planned our predispositions, the
nurturing environment that we would receive, and even the details of our outer
appearance, so that we would be exactly perfect for the purposes that He created us to
complete. This idea is truly amazing, and shows just how big and wonderful our God is.
In high school, I held many leadership positions from cheerleading captain to club
president. However, similarly to most teenagers, I did not have a strong inclination toward
loving and serving others. It is naturally a self-centered time in ones life. I believe this was a
weakness that Christ wanted to develop in me because He had something better in store. I
was not saved until my freshman year of college at Liberty University and as soon as I
allowed Jesus to come into my heart, I gained an entirely new perspective on how to lead
others. I realized that God did not create me the way He did to serve myself; He created me
this way so that I would be able to serve His people and to complete the tasks that He
planned for me.
