Christian Worldview
Paul’s letter to the Romans is not just a letter to the Gentile church in Rome; it is a
letter with emphasis on the Gospel addressed to all of mankind. Although the book of
Romans is not systematic theology, Paul presents it in a very systematic fashion. Paul’s
letter addresses an important fact that believers as well as non-believers can have a
Christian Worldview. Paul is very clear when he states, “Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah,
and the Son of God” (Rom. 1:3-5). In this essay, we will briefly discuss how Paul’s
argument in Romans is foundational to the Christian Worldview. We will go over the
creation, sin, salvation, eschatology, ethics, and theology that Romans presents to defend
this argument.
The first Chapter is very clear regarding God’s wrath. His wrath is to bestowed
on the whole earth, believer or not. God’s invisible attributes, eternal power and divine
nature can be seen in the created world (Rom. 1:20). This means that all of God’s
creation can still know Him without hearing the Gospel. Furthermore, these people can
have a relationship with him.
Sin is a topic that is highly debated among evangelicals today. Paul briefly
describes the consequences of our sin in his letter. He elaborates about the sinful nature
of the fallen man in Romans 3:23, which states, “all sinned and will fall short of the
Glory of God.” Paul warns and encourages the Romans in chapter six when he states,
“the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life with Christ Jesus out Lord”
(6:23). When Christ did His work on the cross, we were no longer in debt to our sin.
Paul tells us that “God demonstrates His love for us, in that while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us” (5:8).
In regards to salvation, Paul iterates that the way to salvation is through Christ
Jesus, and Him alone. One may ask the question, “How do I become saved?” Paul
answers this question in Romans 10:9 where he states, “if you confess with your mouth
Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be
saved.” Romans 3:22 is paramount to understanding justification by faith. It states,
“This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.”
After Paul laid down the foundation in chapters 1-10, he goes on to explain our
role as Christians in this world. He tells us how to live in a sinful world. Romans 12:1
tells us that we should “offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.”
Paul seems to emphasize love in this portion of the letter. He advises us in 12:9 to make
our love sincere and hate everything that is evil. His advice in this part of his letter
suggest that when Christians conform to the world around them, they are no longer set
apart from the world, they are mere creatures undistinguishable from the ones who hate
God.
Throughout the book of Romans, God is expressed as being merciful, kind, and
loving. He is also expressed as being the ultimate judge. Hence in 6:23 when Paul states
the “the wages of sin is death.” God is constantly seeking after us. All we have to do is
believe. Romans 3:24 states, “all are justified freely by his grace through his redemption
that came by Christ Jesus.” This is a great expression of the true character of God.
Paul’s letter to the Romans gives us instructions and examples in a systematic
manner as to the consequences of our sin, how to gain salvation, and how to live out life
as believers in Christ in a sinful world. God’s overwhelming love for his creation caused
him to send His only son Jesus to this fallen world to be the redeemer of our sinful

nature. God’s grace and mercy allows for us to spend eternity with him in heaven rather
than burn forever in the pits of hell away from Him. The book of Romans is a perfect
picture of how we as Christians should view this world we live in.
