Abraham’s Test

Jacob’s Ladder – Genesis 28:10-22

Judah Interlude – Genesis 38
Judah has 3 sons with a Canaanite wife

His first son, Er, married __Tamar________but then was punished by God for a sinful
lifestyle, and he died.
The second son, Onan, married Tamar in Levirate Marriage but he was also killed by God
for his sin.
Judah will not give his third son to Tamar but will also not allow her to return to her
family, so Tamar tricks Judah into having her child.
Problem: Canaan is turning the Sons of Israel away from God. There is grievous
immorality among the Sons of Israel.
Joseph – Genesis 37-50
Joseph in ___Egypt_______
Arrives in 1897 BC
oPharaoh was likely Sesostris III

oPotiphar = royal body guard
oJoseph is the favored slave and is made manager of the estate
___Potiphar’s wife___________ tries to seduce him, but he refuses because it would be

When Potiphar’s wife tries to trap him and fails, she blames Joseph.

Potiphar throws Joseph in prison, but _the Lord_________ is still with him and caused
everything Joseph did to _succeed_________.
The Warden puts Joseph in charge

Joseph accuses them of being spies, keeps Simeon, and demands they bring Benjamin

They go to dinner at Joseph’s house and he puts them in birth order, striking fear into
their hearts.
Joseph frames Benjamin to see how they will react.
