Biblical Worldview Essay
The book of Genesis lays the foundation of this world as we know it. We are able to
witness God’s love for us all and his primary purpose for our lives. Through reading the first
eleven chapters, we are able to witness how God thoughtfully created this world and what his
intentions for us were. We are able to explore several main themes throughout the first book of
the scriptures, themes that are able to point us into the direction of the world as we know it. The
creation of the natural world, and how God so carefully and thoughtfully planned it for us all to
enjoy and live in. Our identity within our heavenly father and his intentions for our lives when he
first created both man and woman to his image. We can explore the relationships that began
within the human race and the various different interactions held throughout the book of genesis.
We are able to see the descendants of the first humans on earth and later see exactly where the
Lord led them to. As the book progresses, we are able to unravel the biggest gift God has given
us, life.
In the first chapter of the book of genesis, we are able to see how God so thoughtfully
planned out the world we live in and the different components of life He decided to include in
his creation. In genesis 2:31, we are able to see that after God worked thoroughly day after day
he was content with what He had done. After everything he created and worked so tirelessly for
He was able to rest and bless that day in accordance with the “creation of the heavens and
earth.”
(Gen 2:1-4 NLT) Within the first few verses of the chapter, we can see how God created
everything from the moon and the stars the animals that graze our earth (Gen 1:1-26 NLT)
By reading about God’s creation of the natural world I am able to rest assured that God is
our heavenly father and God above all other Gods because I am able to dig through scriptures
and find the evidence that He is the one who crated it and He is the one who brought everything
to life with everything he knows and is. Knowing that it has taken centuries to know about the
earth God created in just seven within the eye of man is miraculous. It just comes to show just
how great and powerful our mighty God is. With reading about the creation of earth by God, my
worldview is extremely molded into what I have been taught all of my life. There is no one
greater than our God and no one higher than He is. God worked flawlessly and diligently to be
able to bring us water, and light and food and reading about it gives me so much reassurance
about my faith and credibility about my God.
Our identity comes from our creator. We are the pinnacle of His creative work and as
seen in Genesis 1:27, God created us in His image in accordance to his purpose and role for us
(Hindson and Yates: 2012). God is who gave us all an intention and it is through him that we are
able to trace our paths back to him. We were created by Him and for him, but as seen through
disobedience in the scriptures, not everyone lives up to glorifying him for giving us life. We are
all created with a purpose and a significance and while it may take more time for others to
realize this purpose, God makes it clear that he intended for us all to live eternally as seen with
the story of Adam and Eve.
My worldview stands firm on the biblical principle that God is my ultimate creator and I
have been created in His image for His glory and with a purpose greater than I could imagine. I
strongly believe that these few verses in genesis give me great pleasure and great satisfactions
because I am able to read from his accounts and his word about the love He has for us all and I
believe it because I have seen it firsthand how much He loves me.
From the descendants of the first humans on earth, Adam and Eve, we can see how they
interacted and how they saw God in their eyes and the respect and reverence they had towards
him. We can see the relationships developed by them and how they once lived and how they
lived. We can see the jealously displayed in the relationship with Cain and Abel and how Abel
ended up dead and Cain’s irreverence towards His God (Gen 4 NLT). It is clear how Eve could
not take full responsibility for her actions in disobeying God and had to drag Adam into it after
being told explicitly they were forbidden from doing such an action. Their relationship with God
is ultimately shattered and all they have is each other to lean on. The fact that these few
examples are about putting themselves first and putting God second really says a lot about
how we see God.
We have all been guilty of not thinking about God in moments of pleasure and in
moments of split decision making and I believe that even though we have failed God He is still
there for us and still loves us even when we don’t love him. Through human relationships we are
able to see how people view one another and how they view their relationship with a higher
power and the reverence they have. My worldview has been molded by reading stories like
Adam and Eves’ and Cain and Abels’ and knowing how upset God can get is quite an eye opener
and really makes me think twice about things.
With the story of the tower of Babel we are able to see how civilization eventually
adapted to living with one another and how they desired to be like God and be united to attain
the higher power. With stories like this, I am able to see just how important adaptation and fear
of God is important and how easily God can change something He doesn’t like. Also with the
flood God brought to earth and how He destroyed all life on earth with the exception of Noah
and his family. It’s clear how important the theme of civilization is to live with others and adapt
to cultures and live together and work with each other to survive.
God made it very clear to us His purpose from the beginning and how he took His time to
create everything we know today. There is nothing more than to glorify him for everything and
thank him. For it is easier said than done, but by reading about these major themes seen within
the first few chapters of genesis, I am able to have a clearer worldview and a more definitive
picture of God’s plan.
