Introduction:
Process Philosophy is a “branch of philosophy that asserts that all aspects of reality are
subject to change, and that there is no faucet of reality which can be considered to be static”
(Ferdon, 2019). When it comes to many social and political perspectives in the United States
such as education and family and marriage, process philosophy plays an important role. In this
essay I will be discussing the impact that process philosophy has had on the education system
and on the union of families and marriages.
Education:
One of process philosophy’s biggest impact on society was to the education system.
One of the major areas that this affected was the access to higher education. Higher education
was considered to be a privilege to those who members of what was consider elite or the
“leisure class” (Cummings, 1899). In 1944 the G.I. Bill was signed by President Franklin
Roosevelts, which allowed a reward for veterans who served in World War II. The United
States then also began to distribute taxpayer funds for those who couldn’t afford the cost of
higher education. It wasn’t until President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Higher Education Act
in 1965, that students of lower-income households had access to Pell Grant and/or Federal
Grants. With all this available funding, must Americans were able to obtain higher education
which was previously only offered to the elite.
Family and Marriage:
When it comes to the Bible, family is defined as the union of “one man and one woman
in matrimony”, which is normally blessed with one or multiple children, whether biological or

adoptive. A marriage is defined as a union amongst a man and woman in which the two become
one for the purpose to mirror the relationship of the Godhead. The belief system that surrounds
process philosophy has greatly impacted families and marriages. When God is removed from
the meaning of marriage it can negatively impact the union. Higher divorce rates, broken
families and multiple marriages are some of the results of the impact of this belief system. “We
will actually reach the point where we will look to the state to dictate who will live with whom,
how many children couples will have, and all other manners or decisions which belong
Biblically, to God and to those united in holy matrimony under God” (Martin, 2006).
Conclusion:
In conclusion, American society is so vast and dynamic. The process philosophy states
that everything in this world is always changing as time goes on and nothing ever stays the
same. The United States government must continue to adapt to the change in policies in order
to keep up with all of the changes that happen and will continue to happen in society.
