Passage: 2 Chronicles 9:1-12
A. How does this passage from 2 Chronicles fit within the metanarrative of the Bible? State
what type of story you believe this to be (creation, fall, redemption, or new creation) and
explain why you believe this to be so? Your explanation of the story selection (question

Redemption
2. Why is it this type of story?
2 Chronicles 9:1-12 is a story of redemption because it details one of the ways in
which God has kept his promise to redeem the people of Israel through King
Solomon. By King Solomon building a temple and choosing to live through and by
God, at least initially, God showers the King and Israel in his blessings making them
a prosperous, wealthy, influential, and happy people. It highlights what can happen if
one chooses to devote their life to God and how his blessings and righteousness will
redeem a person or people through him. Everything bestowed upon King Solomon
and by extension the people of Isreal is a show of what God wants for his people if
they choose to live by his commands. God wants to redeem his people from their sin
and will lovingly and abundantly bless them if they turn to him. The story of the
Queen of Sheba visiting King Solomon is a demonstration of the redeeming love of
God. The Queen sees all that God has blessed King Solomon and Israel with and
exclaims at the blessings of the Lord. One can infer from this passage that by showing
the Queen all that God has done for Israel that the Queen would or should turn to God
and choose to live as he would command her to live as well and therefore also be
redeemed through his love.
