Passage: Acts 9:36-43
A. How does this passage from Acts fit within the metanarrative of the Bible? State what
type of story you believe this to be (creation, fall, redemption, or new creation) and
explain why you believe this to be so? Your explanation should be 1 paragraph (200-300
words) in length. It may be good to review chapter six in Everyday Bible Study in order to
recall what each of these four themes are about.
The story of Peter raising Tabitha from the dead in Acts 9:36-43 fits within the redemptive
theme of the Bible’s metanarrative. “I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like
the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you” Isaiah 44:22. This passage doesn’t
show the redemption of Peter, but it shows the redemptive power of God used through Peter to
raise Tabitha from the dead. Although God wasn’t present in the flesh to raise Tabitha, He was
present in the spirit, and by working through Peter, not only did He bring back a faithful woman,
He also brought many people to believe in Him because of what He did for Tabitha. I think one
thing to recognize from this passage is that it’s after Jesus’ time, after he performed the ultimate
sacrifice, the reason we have redemption today. John 14:6 says, “Jesus said to him, “I am the
way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. I like this verse
for this passage because they sent for Peter to raise Tabitha, they didn’t try to do a job they
weren’t meant to do. Peter knew Jesus, and they didn’t, so they used Peter as their way to the
Father to raise Tabitha from the dead.
B. How does your principle from Acts 9:36-43 fit with the rest of the Scripture? This
principle is the one you have written out in 1-3 sentences in the Interpretation section. If
your principle is a true Biblical principle, it will be reflected throughout the
Scriptures. Where is the principle discovered in this New Testament narrative found
elsewhere in the Scriptures? Your explanation should be 1 paragraph (200-300 words) in

My principle from the Interpretation assignment said, “God showed how great He is using
his power through Peter to bring Tabitha back from the dead.” This principle is shown multiple
times throughout the Bible because even though God isn’t present on the earth, He uses his
faithful servants to perform His works through. Acts 14:19 says, “But Jews came from Antioch
and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city,
supposing that he was dead.” If you were to keep reading, you’d find out that Paul was not dead.
Although this isn’t Paul healing someone’s sickness or raising the from the dead, this is still a
work God did. Being stoned would’ve killed anyone but God kept Paul alive because his work
for God was not done. Jesus tells his disciples, "Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of
Heaven is near. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give
as freely as you have received!" (Matthew 10:7-8). The disciples followed instructions and
returned, sharing about all the great miracles they performed (Luke 9:10). These scriptures tell us

that Jesus intended for His disciples to be able to perform the same miracles He did. Lastly, I
want to end with John 14:12 saying, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the
works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my
Father.”
C. How does this passage from Acts reflect the person and work of Jesus Christ? State and
explain at least one way that the principle of this passage identifies something of the
person and work of Jesus Christ. Your explanation should be 1 paragraph (200-300
words) in length. Be specific. List, explain, and cite your supporting passage(s) from
Scripture.
The passage Acts 9:36-43 reflects the person and work of Jesus to us by showing how powerful
God is in leading others to be faithful in Him. The same way He used Peter, He used Jesus to
spread His word and perform miracles such as Peter did when he resurrected Tabitha. Jesus was
faithful, and He stayed faithful even after being betrayed. Jesus showed us His faithfulness by
forgiving Judas, his closest friend who betrayed him. Luke 23:34 says, “Then said Jesus, Father,
forgive them; for they know not what they do.” In the 33 years of Jesus’ life, He was faithful just
as Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” The good
deeds we were told Tabitha did could also compare to the deeds Jesus did as well. In Matthew
5:16, is says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and
glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Jesus Christ lived by these words. He knew that after
preaching for 3 days, the people needed to eat so He fed them. Everywhere Jesus went He added
some kind of value to someone’s life. The life that Jesus lived is the same life we should live.
Everyday we should add value to someone’s life.
