BIBLE S P : CTUDY ROJECT ORRELATION ASSIGNMENT
Passage: Acts 9:36-43
A. The passage from Acts 9:36-43 fits within the redemption metanarrative of the bible.
Redemption is defined: “To pay a price in order to secure the release of something or
someone. It denotes the idea of paying what is required in order to liberate from
oppression, enslavement, or another type of binding obligation.” (Brand, Pg. 2153)
Although God is not making Peter pay what is required to release human kind of sin. God
is redeeming his great power through his servants. Peter performs the miracle of bringing
the dead back to life by the power of God. God shows this power and thus makes more
believers out of the people of Joppa. Doing so also resembles the power of Jesus Christ
and how he performed miracles of healing the ill and awakening the dead through the
power of God. There is a moral hint to the story which shows a Christ like act by
performing such acts to Gods disciples such as the miracle performed by peter to Tabitha
or Dorca which was a disciple of God and lived a life full of good dead and or acts. We
see this as the widows were holding the clothes sewn by Dorca while weeping of her
death.
B. God is almighty and powerful and shows this by resurrecting the dead through his servant
Peter. Was my principle from Acts 9:36-43. You can see this principle throughout the
bible. However, it’s not just through Peter that God shows his power and strength but
rather the miracles that are performed though out many servants of Gods leadership you
can see this in other passages of the bible. Mark 5:21-24 says: “ When Jesus had crossed
21
again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered around him; and he was by
[ ]a
the sea. Then one of the leaders of the synagogue named Jairus came and, when he saw
22
him, fell at his feet and begged him repeatedly, “My little daughter is at the point of
23
death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well, and live.” So he
24
went with him.” Peter also commanded Tabitha to rise in a very similar sense as Jesus
commanded “Talitha Cumi” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” When looking
through the bible and reviewing scripture you can find very similar examples of my
principle of God being an almighty and powerful God. You can find several instances
where he worked his miracles through his Prophets, Servants, and disciples.
C. As stated above the principle of this passage can be seen throughout the bible and shows
the work of God through his servants just the same way Jesus Christ worked his miracles.
On the followers of God. Mark 5:21-24 says “ Now when Jesus had crossed over again
21
by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the
sea. And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he
22
saw Him, he fell at His feet and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies
23
at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she
will live.” So went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged
24 Jesus
Him.” (NKJV) and Mark 5:41-43 says “ Then He took the child by the hand, and said
41
to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42 Immediately

the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years And they were overcome with of age.
great amazement. But He commanded them strictly that no one should know it and said
43
that should be given her to eat.” (NKJV) If you read Acts 9:36-43 there are a something
lot of similarities within the two passages. Such as that God has Performed his miracles
through Peter and Jesus to heal/ Awaken the dead. The two also gave a command
awakening the two that were sick and/ or dead. The Miracles performed were ones to
show the almighty power of God and spread the word and strength of God.
