Leadership
A leader in the aviation field
Sir Richard Branson is an English businessperson and an investor born in 1950. The
entrepreneur is famous for the founding of Virgin Group, which controls almost 400 businesses.
After opening the Virgin Group, Sir Richard Branson grew fast and began the Virgin Atlantic
Airlines in the 1980s. Sir Richard Branson is a leader who has invested in the aviation field by
securing Virgin Atlantic Airways. Sir Richard Branson has succeeded as a leader because of the
different qualities to control and manage its operations.
Leadership traits or attributes exhibited by the leader
Sir Richard Branson is an entrepreneur who created several jobs for people. Despite being
an entrepreneur, Sir Richard Branson displays leadership traits that help manage large groups of
people. One of the leadership traits exhibited by Branson involves communication. Sir Richard
Branson interacts with different people and uses a participative leadership style that involves
teamwork for business success (BRANSON, 2020). When dealing with a team of employees, the
leader uses effective communication to interact with employees and share the company goals and
visions. Branson is a good listener, making him learn from other successful people's inspiring
words despite their positions.
Delegation is a leadership trait of Richard Branson. Richard Branson believes in delegating
duties to his employees and focusing on the bigger picture. Delegation enables a leader to point
out areas that require more employees. Richard Branson believes that a good delegator should
identify their areas of weakness and strengths (Bruijl, 2018). Leaders can delegate duties to balance
out their areas of weakness and concentrate on their areas of proficiency. Richard Branson
3
delegating character enables him to embrace a collaborative culture where he stays connected to
all Virgin groups' departments. A leader cannot overcome market competition and bring new ideas
individually. A leader cannot perform all duties alone, hence the need to delegate tasks they cannot
handle.
Another leadership attribute exhibited by Sir Richard Branson is influence. Sir Richard
Branson is a leader who believes in personality and experience. The leader uses the qualities to
influence employees and other people around him to accomplish the duties. The experience a
person has makes them influence others to accept their ideas and achieve the same goal
(Humphrey, 2013). Branson uses this train to build the organizational culture by influencing other
employees. The leadership trait has also been essential for him to influence talents to work for
Virgin Group.
Description and analysis of the leadership traits
Communication is a leadership quality that enables a leader to build good relationships
with their subjects. Communication is the backbone of an effective leader. Effective
communication enables a leader to share information in various ways with people of different
social identities. Leaders learn through effective listening. Leaders have to share company goals
and strategies with company teams and encourage them to achieve them (Bratton, 2020). A leader
can drive success in a company through timely communication and effective listening. Company
executives should possess the ability to effectively listen to a message and identify any emotions
accompanying the message. Effective communicators can explicitly explain a challenge and share
possible solutions with their team.
4
Influence is also a leadership trait that allows a leader to convince people through
cooperative appeals. Influence enables a leader to make people agree with their opinions and
follow their instructions. An influential leader understands the reality of working in a diverse team
and devises ways of convincing their teams (Harrison, 2018). Leaders work with employees with
diverse traits, and they have to impact their workers positively. A good leader influences the team
to work towards achieving the desired target. Influential leaders employ team building, emotional
intelligence, and negotiation to influence employees’ collaboration and enhance client
engagement.
The ability to delegate is a leadership quality that is essential for any leader. Delegation
involves assigning tasks to team members according to their occupational qualifications and
abilities. Leaders with excellent managerial capabilities are great delegators (Dent, 2014). A
delegating leader empowers employees and positively challenges them during the assignment of
responsibilities. Effective delegation enables a leader to train workers to succeed in their
responsibilities. Delegation allows leaders to create time for strategic thinking and focus on
managerial activities. A delegator gives team members roles, sets the direction for employees, and
inspires them through coaching.
How the traits contributed to their effectiveness while executing his or her authority,
responsibility, and accountability
Delegation is one of the leadership traits that Richard Branson applies in his authority.
Richard Branson believes in the art of delegation, which enables a leader to give various
responsibilities to employees. Delegation allows a leader to make their worker feel wanted by
providing them with the opportunity to learn and assume new roles. Delegation enables Richard
Branson to find the best employees for Virgin Group, assign tasks to them, and encourage them to
5
accomplish their duties. Richard Branson believes that a delegator can effectively run their
business even in their absence since employees know their responsibilities. Richard Branson has
been retaining his managers because of his art of delegation. Richard Branson enhances his
manager’s performance by giving them opportunities to exploit their abilities.
Communication is another leadership quality in Richard Branson’s leadership life. Richard
Branson picks out effective communication as one of the most crucial skills of an entrepreneur.
Business people who can speak fluently, listen attentively, and focus on details can outshine the
competition. Richard Branson is an effective communicator who pays attention to every detail.
Richard Branson led the Virgin group in implementing a digital detox policy that encourages
interaction among the firm’s employees. The strategy also allows workers to be creative. Richard
Branson believes that communication is an art that a person can learn and improves many aspects
of life. A leader is accountable for their employee’s success through effective direction and
guidance.
Influence is also a leadership quality evident in Richard Branson’s business management.
Richard Branson upholds influence where he convinces people by helping them learn and fall over.
Richard Branson's leadership approach in the Virgin Group involves motivation and the ability to
influence employees to contribute to its success. Richard Branson has also been creating different
strategies and coordinating the teams to implement. An influential leader guides their employees
to embrace creativity. Richard Branson encourages employees to be innovative, responsive, and
embrace the company's culture.
An ethical or moral issue faced by the leader
6
Through his company Virgin Group, Sir Richard Branson has gained critics for engaging
in unethical business practices, killing small non-profit businesses and start-ups. Virgin went ahead
to sue Las Virgenes, a non-profit educational foundation staffed by volunteer teachers (EPR
Network, 2020). The foundation deals with protecting and educating disadvantaged children in
society, but Sir Richard Branson sued it to close its operations. The issue raised concern because
the staff consisted of volunteer people and not profit-making individuals.
Other people feel that Virgin Group bullies’ other organizations by opposing their
trademark registrations to remain a monopoly. Sir Richard Branson has been on the spot because
of the threat’s companies complained about to close start-up businesses. Michael Atkins, an
attorney, argued that Sir Richard Branson uses the 'virgin' title to engage companies in court to
close their businesses. There was a time Sir Richard Branson engaged in court with a company
because of using a specific name for their brand (Hubbert, 2012). The company owner for 'I Am
Not A Virgin' argued that this was the method Sir Richard Branson uses to kill competitors
unethically. However, despite the moral issues raised against Sir Richard Branson, the leader
remained firm and strong to run his businesses.

Biblical and Individual Case Study
1. The leader of the Old Testament
According to the holy bible, David was the second supreme ruler throughout the
prehistoric United Land of Judah who sought to develop Goodness's everlasting crown. Defunct
shepherd, David was recognized for his enthusiasm for God, his tickling hymns and musical
talents, his empowering bravery, and expert knowledge on the battlefield, born around 1000 BC.
Due to his leadership prowess, David held power for forty years in one of the most generous and
most prosperous times in the history of Jerusalem, the "Golden Generation" of Israel.
Leadership Traits Exhibited King David
King David was an astute administrator. He had selected sensible groups to help as well
as instruct him. David led military conflicts and accomplishments with the brain of a king. He
contemplated his administration of internal matters of empire by delegating responsibilities to
sensible elders he had ordained (Daniels, 2020). By his talent and resources, unifying with the
provider of several renowned men, and assisted by the pursuit of God, he elevated the country, in
a brief period, to a situation of exceptional honor and prestige.
David's Spirit to consult was an essential factor in his leadership development.
Throughout all his ventures, he communicated with the religious leaders of God. In this, he
repeatedly asked God's advice before he indulges in any experience. This act proved to be a
master plan to govern his subjects diligently. The principle of David's life in team-decision
making was decisive to his constant and unwavering governance. God was leading him as he was
centered on God and often pursued to obey Him.
An Ethical Issue Faced by King David
3
King David faced an ethical dilemma when he sexually abused Bathsheba; David saw
his desirable neighbor, Bathsheba, wash. He sent his soldiers to take her back to the palace, and
he had intercourse with her. To cover up pregnancy, David disclosed Bathsheba's husband,
Uriah, from Raba's blockade. Still, Uriah had that much moral fortitude to rest with his wife,
whereas the remaining troops and the ark were lounging in makeshift shelters. David staged
Uriah's brutal death, assuming the catastrophe had been mitigated. King David violated his
ethical and power values.
King David Response to the Situation
God was going to prosecute David for what he had executed. And in reaction, David
admitted his evil. He was accountable for having done immoral. He pursued broader repentance.
More so, David showed Bathsheba's values of responsibility. He took her as his wife so that she
could have a child with a father. Although David was a king and a woman was an ordinary
subject, David took care of her and her son Solomon. He showed authority when he promised
Bathsheba that his son would be the king after him, despite the other sons' opposition (Lughu,
2019). He used the power of authority until his death when Solomon came to power.
Sir Richard Branson Leader of Virgin Group
Sir Richard Branson is a venture capitalist born in 1950. Branson is primarily
acknowledged for the establishment of Virgin Group that coordinates approximately four
hundred firms. Upon launching Virgin Group, Sir Richard expanded it quickly, and Virgin
Atlantic Airline companies started operations throughout the 1980s. Sir Richard is a figurehead
who has made aerospace investments by obtaining Virgin Atlantic Airways (BRANSON, 2020).
Moral Issue the Leader Faced
4
Sir Richard Branson was significantly blamed for engaging in shady business deals that
the critics and destroying young non-profits and start-ups. The claims led to Virgin suing Las
Virgenes. The establishment is dedicated to protecting and supporting underprivileged youth in
the community, but Sir Richard Branson had taken to court it to shut its operational activities.
The problem expressed questions because employees composed of volunteers and not revenue
persons were connected to its operations.
Additionally, Virgin Group is known to harass other groups by denouncing their
copyrights' enrollment to stay a monopolist. Sir Richard had been on the spot because of the risk
of firms complaining about start-up firms' closure. Michael Atkins, a lawyer, argued that Sir
Branson primarily adopted the name to shut other businesses out of the industry. Sir Richard had
taken a party in trial with a corporation by using a unique code for their label. The ‘I Am Not a
Virgin' owner contended Sir Richard’s technique used to kill rivals inappropriately. Even so,
given the ethical questions presented toward Sir Richard, the leader stayed strong and powerful
to run his business.
Sir Richard Response to Critics
Sir Richard has the authority Influence to evaluate the safety of his firm. This influence is
sufficient to keep his competitors silent and not to calculate his business administration plans. He
is responsible for his firm profit generation and development. Richard maintains accountability,
leading people to believe by helping them understand and descend, and being accountable to his
employers’ development during difficult moments like COVID-19. Richard's governance way to
address the Virgin Group's condemnation involves getting help during the catastrophe and the
power to affect the government. As a moral leader, Richard has developed a range of tactics and
5
coordinated players to enforce his company's objectives, offering adversaries a great deal to
dismiss negative scenarios. He never backs down. Hence is a well-accredited leader.
2. Compare and Contrast the Leaders Response
Authority, Accountability, and Responsibility
In comparison, the two leaders demonstrated high authority, responsiveness, and
accountability by responding to dilemmas facing them amicably and protecting their image and
subjects. Sir Richard went to court, while David sought God. in contrast, David felt personal
judgments about the situation, while Richard only thought about his firm security.
Moral
In terms of morals, both actions were not justifiable. Richard was having copyright rights
to many companies' means he was prepared to deal with the unethical values he demonstrated.
Thus, his response to rush to court was within his reach. While David’s actions were unplanned,
he showed personal condemnations to the story he did. He genuinely repented, unlike Richard,
who was un-submissive.
Leadership traits
They both exhibited administrative influence traits; this leadership trait allowed them to
convince the people through collaborative judgments. Involvement facilitates a figurehead to get
the party to cooperate with their viewpoints and follow their advice. An influencing person
knows the actuality of working in a multicultural team and invents ways to convince their team
members. The consultation spirit demonstrated by David was vital in his rule; thus, he had few
6
enemies, unlike Richard, despite his excellent communication skills, and lacked the trait to
consult. If he consulted well, he could avoid many court battles.
Lessons for Leadership Development
In recap, as people, we need to learn from the two leaders; we should love our families
and work as David and Richard did. More so, we should accept reprimands as they arise from
crises that result in the pain of the party's involved. As business, church, and public sector
leaders, we should provide positive leadership traits that empower others positively (Galloway et
al., 2019). Additionally, as cooperate, managers, we should seek other staff advice and create a
communicative culture within a work culture that demonstrates collaborative work with zero
unethical practices.

The
consultation
spirit
demonstrated
by
David
was
vital
in
his
rule;
thus,
he
had
few
enemies,
unlike
Richard,
despite
his
excellent
communication
skills,
and
lacked
the
trait
to
consult.
If
he

well,

Lessons
for
Leadership
Development
In
recap,
as
people,
we
need
to
learn
from
the
two
leaders;
we
should
love
our
families
and
work
as
David
and
Richard
did.
More
so,
we
should
accept
reprimands
as
they
arise
from
crises
that
result
in
the
pain
of
the
party's
involved.
As
business,
church,
and
public
sector
leaders,
we
should
provide
positive
leadership
traits
that
empower
others
positively
(Galloway
et
al.,
2019).
Additionally,
as
cooperate,
managers,
we
should
seek
other
staff
advice
and
create
a
communicative
culture
within
a
work
culture
that
demonstrates
collaborative
work
with
zero
unethical
practices.
