Financial Literacy for Christians
In Christianity, there is a mandate for us to be good stewards of our money and have a
heart posture for God in everything that we do with our money. In secular views of money, there
is more of an emphasis on doing whatever we want with our money. This is a selfish view of
money that also does not emphasize the importance of giving out money back to others in need
or the church. The Christian view of money also stems from the fact that money comes from
God, and he provides for us in every way.
The Ron Blue material teaches us the correct heart posture that includes stewardship,
contentment, wisdom, and faith. As Christians, we are just stewards of what God provides us. We
must begin to align with the idea that God owns all of our money. Next, we have to begin to
believe that we have enough right now. This is the idea of contentment in the Christian mind that
God has given enough, and we are satisfied with whatever amount. The next part of our heart
posture is to have wisdom. Inviting God into our finances and trusting that God is available to
give us wisdom in our finances opens the door to security. The last part of our heart posture is to
have faith in our finances. We are to steward our money by giving back to God through our
finances. By aligning our hearts with God’s heart, we can begin to fulfill the mandate of
stewardship that God has given us in Genesis 1:26.
In our practical use of money, we are to see five categories of owing, taxes and debt,
giving, living, and growing. With these categories we can practically steward our money in the
way God has intended us to. We are to faithfully give back to God give back to what God has
given us as part of our stewardship. In contrast, secular dealings with money do not involve the
mandate of giving back. Our behavior is just the tip, we are influenced by our belief systems as
to how we handle our moneys as Christians. As Christians, we only serve one true King and that

is not money, it is God. This is a testament to non-believers and gives an apologetic on how
Christians are different in every way of this life, including money.
