A supervised injection site is a facility where drug users can have safe administration of the
drugs using site-provided sterile equipment under the supervision of medical personnel
(Kinshella, Gauthier, & Lysyshyn, 2018). There have been various debates on developing such
centers. This is alarming especially because of the fact that maintenance of such facilities would
require input of public funds .On the contrary; the sites are capable of facilitating the health of
the drug users without requiring them to quit using the drugs. The nation has a problem with
abuse of drugs. Whatsoever, majority of the people have a likelihood of using the drug in
circumstances that are very risky because they fear being stigmatized and known by the society?
However, having a safe injection site would help in solving the situation. This is because the site
would operate on harm-reduction models.
Drug policies should be based on the model that will lead to the best possible consequences for
every person involved. Prescribed injection sites should be allowed. Not only do they help in
preventing overdoses but also in lowering the risk of getting AIDS. Prescribed injection sites
should continue to operate.
There are various reasons why I agree that prescribed injection sites should be maintain:
Prescribed injection site saves lives- There have been no deaths that have been caused
by overdose since it was opened in 2003.On average, about 600 injections happen each day at the
site and last year only there were over 200 overdose interventions by the staff who offer drugs or
oxygen to users who are in danger of overdosing.
It serves as a bridge to detox and treatment- Insite was conceived as sector of a four –
pillars approach –them being treatment, prevention, reduction, and enforcement-model; led on
similar programs that jurisdiction such as Germany and Switzerland pursued in the 1990s (Kreit,
2019). By providing a safe, on-judge-mental environment to shot up, the reasoning goes; Insite

allows drug users in connecting with other services, whether that be treatment for a drug-related
abscess or dental care. In 2010,Insite made over 5,000 referrals to other health and social
agencies, including 458 admissions to Onsite, a neighboring detox facility which opened in 2007
and recorded a program completion rate of 43% in 2010 Supervised injection sites should be
observed as just one piece of a larger puzzle in treating drug addiction and its related toll on
society. Supervised injection sites acts as a bridge between drug rehabilitation facilities and the
addicts
Supervised injection sites benefits public health and the wider community.- Among
the vast studies published on Insite papers which conclude that the clinic has not led to an
increase in crimes that are related to drugs, is not a negative influence of those seeking to stop
usage of drugs and has resulted in a drop in public injections in doorways and back alleys.
Studies have shown that declines in dangerous behavior, for instance needle sharing, and a
related decrease in HIV infections. Prescribed injection sites also are beneficial since they
provide a safe space for opiate addicts for drugs injection. Rather than injection of drugs in
public spaces, where they can be a challenge and a health hazard, drug users can inject
themselves in a safe and hygienic environment. This helps in preventing the public and in
particular highly susceptible members such as teenagers and school going children from being
exposed to harmful drugs.
I conclude and agree that prescribed injection sites should continue to operate.
