Ethics-Unqualified Absolutism
Angie, I’m in total agreement with you, that non-Christians fall short of the “moral
right” in the way the Lord has laid it out for us Christians. However, as Christians, we know
better and must choose the “moral right” because the Load has outlined it for us to follow the
higher commandment (law). Allow me to elaborate my thoughts on unqualified absolutism by
also incorporating your thinking as well.
The ethics system that you subscribe to is unqualified absolutism that according to
Geisler (2010), there are many moral laws which guide Christians and these laws must never
be broken. One such law is telling the truth and always standing by it no matter the
repercussions (McDonald, 2010).
One of the reasons that make me subscribe to this ethic’s system as well personally is
that it helps in solving dilemmas. For instance, since moral laws such as always telling the
truth are absolute, one should always tell the truth no matter the consequence (Shaaba, 2017).
For example, as a Christina, if I witness someone stealing, I should tell the truth on which I
saw stealing, and what was stolen. I can do so without feeling any form of guilt.
Another reason for subscribing to the unqualified absolutism ethics system as a
Christian is because it supported by the Biblical teachings. In Heb. 13:8, the Bible says that
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” and this implies that the truth shall
remain the truth. While the Bible talks of different levels of moral laws, one is not justified to
break any of them and should, therefore, follow all (Chiesa, 2014). What this implies is that
as a Christian, I should follow all the Biblical teachings and consider them while making
decisions and taking actions especially when facing a dilemma.
In conclusion, following unqualified absolutism ethics system helps me as a Christian
to not look at the outcome of my actions or decisions but on my Christian values and the

moral laws quoted in the Bible. For example, I should always tell the truth no matter the
consequences of the truth being known.
