1. Before conducting this research, what major(s) were you interested in, and why? Which is your
current major? My current major at ASU is Accountancy. A few other majors I was originally
interested in were marketing, finance, and financial planning. I took a marketing class in high
school that I really enjoyed, and I think it would be a very fun career. Accounting has always been
something that I enjoyed learning about and have been interested in.
2. What majors did you explore online and what did you learn about each of them? The two
majors that I explored online were Accountancy and Marketing. The accountancy map outlined
the job duties of all accounting related fields. Something new that I learned was that employees
in the audit field typically travel to their clients' sites, which is something I love to do.
Employment of market research analysts is expected to grow 20 percent from 2018 to 2028.
3. How did browsing through the various career community pages help you learn about possible
careers and majors? Has it influenced you to change/add a major? The website really helped
me gain more general knowledge about the different majors the W.P. Carey school of business
offers. I think it acts as a great resource for students like myself who aren’t completely sure what
they want to do in their future career. I may definitely consider changing my major to marketing
in the future.
4. Was there anything missing from the career community pages that you would have liked to
see included? What information do you still want to know? The career community page was a
little confusing to navigate and I felt like it was hard to view the information I wanted to read
about. Something I wish was included on the website was a clear breakdown of what the major
exactly entailed as well as a detailed explanation of the job duties for each. The fast facts link
was nice because it included a direct link and was easily accessible. It also offered a lot of
interesting general information that was helpful.
5. Of the major that you preference the most, what types of opportunities exist at ASU and WPC
to gain new skills towards this career path? Which organizations would be most beneficial to
join and why? The major I spent the most time learning about was accountancy as that is my
current major. I found the section titled “Student Organizations” really helpful because it clearly
identified six clubs that would be beneficial to join for that specific major. I definitely think the
Women’s Business Leaders Association and the Finance and Accounting Career Club would be
great clubs to start getting involved in.
