This lecture was presented by Ajay Vinze and it was about “Global Engagement,” in
relation to college students. He talked about why it should be important to all college students
and to all people in general. He started out by talking about the hurtles countries are up against
and how the first hurtle was innovation and technology, the second hurtle is demographics, and
the third hurtle is globalization. When looking at a country you must first look at the
demographic of the country, then look and see how old or young a country is. Ajay then goes on
to say that the U.S population is very much a bimodal population. He explained it as having a
“big bump” in population than lower population then another “big bump” again. I thought it was
interesting that people in their 30’s and 40’s were most vital to a countries economy. Ajay said
that this was the case because they were finished with education and were fully invested in the
workforce. He went on to talk about a bunch of different countries and their individual
demographics. I found it crazy that 65% of India’s demographic was under the age of 30.
Ajay says, “assuming you can jump over the first two hurtles, the one that is the hardest
is globalization.” He says that no one can truly say that they’re truly India based, or U.S based,
etc. After asking how many countries there are in the world, Ajay then says, “As any business
student would know… It depends.” He then puts a slide up on the big screen in the lecture hall
that shows how complex global issues are. One issue he talked about was technology and how

there is all kinds of crazy technology. There are also legal issues regarding technology. The
whole lecture was just an in depth look at globalization and the analyzation of countries. Ajay
walked us through how to analyze and look at a countries economy, demographic, etc. I learned a
lot about the things that make a country work, and how people analyze countries.
This lecture was different than I was expecting simply because he kind of walked us
through how to look at a country. I thought he was just going to just give examples of
globalization and explain demographics to us. I did not think that the was going to give us the
tools to analyze countries. I was surprised to hear all the facts about miscellaneous countries and
how there are little details and things that make a country work. I learned the steps necessary to
analyzing a country and really looking at it in an in-depth view. My biggest takeaway from the
presentation was that I now have the tools to look at countries and break down certain things in
relation to them. Things such as economy, demographics, ages, ethnicities, diversity, etc. I
thought the lecture was very interesting and it taught me a lot about how countries are analyzed.
