I attended a Faculty Lecture at 3:00pm on Tuesday September 13, 2016. I got the
opportunity to see Kevin Burns whom is senior director of strategic initiatives at Arizona State
University and spoke to us about many different statistics and job opportunities we could have
in the future. The lecture was in the ballroom on the second floor of the Memorial Union, there
were around 50-60 kids there and a few guests to supervise the students, this being said it
wasn’t too crowded which made it a comfortable atmosphere.
When I first signed up for this event I assumed it would very be boring just like every
other lecture I’ve had to patiently sit through. As soon as he started speaking it took a turn of
directions. All of the sudden I could see myself listening more carefully and my eyes get more
intent as he started his lecture. Not only did he inspire us but he showed us statistics and data
to support his thoughts. It was as if it wasn’t a lecture and more of a presentation showing you
what you need to do in order to achieve your dreams of being successful.
I was very surprised to hear him share his personal experiences and relate it to us. He
mentioned how he came from a very poor family and he was a first generation college student,
he also shared his problems and struggles with college which made it easier to understand.

From this lecture I think the most important thing I was taught was how hard you need to work
in order to be a successful business person in the future. The biggest thing I took from this
lecture was how much he stressed that you can be whatever you want to be in life if you have
the will and determination there’s nothing stopping you from getting everything you hope for
out of life.
