Reviewing Own Practice
As a teacher, I have always practised and endorsed inclusive learning when interacting with my
learners. I have always ensured that I satisfy the needs of all of my learners by creating and
implementing effective goals and curricula for all learners. Inclusion is essential, and I have always
minimized the occurrences of issues like discrimination and unfair treatment in the classroom by
applying different effective strategies that have assisted in ensuring that all the learners get the best
education with minimal exclusion interferences. I also often incorporate the personal lives of my
learners in my lessons, particularly when starting a course, and then I continue checking on them to
ensure that they spell out their personal goals and achieve them at the end of the course. Thus, my
teaching has aided learners to become better both in the classroom and in society since, with these
personal goals, they get to achieve things and goals in the non-academic parts of their lives. My teaching
is also always inclusive as I, from time to time, always collaborate with and consult other teachers who
have substantial experience on the best inclusive approaches of teaching and later implement and
incorporate them in my teaching, and the result has been amazing.
My Areas Of Improvement And Strengths
It was the presence of inclusive practice that made my teaching of health subjects a success, and
it also provided me the opportunity to assess my strengths and weaknesses. One of my strengths was
proper preparation of the inclusive learning environment by putting all the tools and resources on
standby before the commencement of the classroom sessions. In such a case, at the beginning of each
of the learning sessions, I ensured that I made the expected learning outcomes and the various goals
and objectives of the learning process clear to the learners. Such enabled the learners to know what was
expected of them from each of these learning sessions, and they can thus strive to achieve all of these
and get the best from each learning activity. Also, I possess strength in the effective utilization of the
different activities, assessment criteria and learning materials to assist me in knowing whether or not
the learners understood the contents of the learning process. Such enabled me to provide tailored
assistance to the various learners who did not have the required level of comprehension and
understanding of the classroom and learning contents.
Additionally, I showcased my strength by giving all my learners appropriate motivation and
support during the entire learning process, which helped to prepare these learners for the learning
process and also created a positive and welcoming learning environment that promoted knowledge
absorption by these learners. Teachers have an obligation to keep all learners safe, and some might
prove unwilling to engage (Lancaster, 2019). During each classroom and learning session, I also
presented my positive attitude, which helped make the learners visionary and willing to learn, thus
boosting the learning process since the learners found it easier to comprehend the teachings.
Despite this, I also showcased some weaknesses, which are the areas that I need to improve in
the future. One of these was that I did not have proper skills in the identification of the various learners
who struggled with issues of domestic violence in their respective households and also the learners who
have health complications like autism. These are two areas that always impact learning if not catered for
and looked into since the learners that face domestic violence are always unsettled mentally in the
classroom while the autistic learners have a challenge in understanding or absorbing knowledge during
learning. Also, even though I often consult with my colleagues, I do not do it very often and I also don't
receive personalized feedback since I always enquire about how they taught their learners. The
discrepancy between the understanding of learners and their capacity for self-expression may prove
upsetting and can result in behavioural issues (Sargeant, 2019). Therefore, in the future, I need to
consult them regularly and also give them personal accounts or issues that my learners face so that they
can give more effective and result oriented feedback. I believe that doing this will greatly improve the
learning outcome of all my learners including those with various challenges.
Methods Of Promoting Diversity, Equality And Inclusion
It is important to adopt various internal regulations that can assist in embracing and promoting
inclusion and this is important since these regulations will be upheld by all the teachers and employees
of the learning institutions thus the students will also automatically follow these regulations. Learners
who can collaborate well with other individuals will benefit from inclusion within the learning procedure
(Ainscow, 2020). Also, all learners should get equal treatment from their teachers irrespective of their
backgrounds, abilities, race, sex and culture. Such will promote respect in the learning environment and
promote inclusion in the long term. The promotion of equality can be through ensuring that all
educational institutions get access to and utilize improved education and learning. On the improvement
of matters of diversity, it is important to remove any cultural, race, or background restrictions when
admitting and dealing with learners. Thus educational institutions need to embrace the cultural
differences that their learners and teachers have by having cultural days to celebrate the different
cultures to make everyone feel represented and recognized. Equality should also be promoted during
the hiring process in schools by allowing everyone to apply for the jobs and also join the school
irrespective of their backgrounds. Such adds more perspectives to the school as they will bring in their
unique perspectives and experiences thus everyone involved will benefit in the long term.
